. . . Cabela's said they had the assurances of Cook County, that they would support and not mess with Cabela's.

Suckers.
Verbal assurances aren't worth the paper they're printed on, especially when they come from politicians and their bureaucrats whose primary function is to lie - and if Cabela's lawyers didn't know that, they all need to be fired, every single one of them.

You know, this buy out of Cabela's by Bass Pro Shops sort of reminds me of the Sears/K-Mart merger; at the time, they said Sears (which was strong) culture would revitalize K-Mart, which was crap; we all know that the opposite happened, and both stores are now crap.

I hope Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops don't combine their weaknesses and shortcomings while discarding their strengths . . . but I'm not terribly optimistic.

K-mart/Sears wasn't a merger.  K-mart bought Sears (based on the leveraging of their real estate holdings aka their stores, which any reasonable person knew was crap, simply because once a K-mart closed they either remained vacant or turned into storefront mini-mega churches or flea-market type places).  Sears was already circling the drain, K-mart's management simply accelerated the spin.

Due note, that I had (and still have) a burning hatred of K-Mart and their logistics operations.   I am firmly convinced that the only profit center of k-mart that actually made money was their logistic chargebacks of their suppliers.... Hack, spit.

We have a Cabelas up the road and a bass pro is opening about a half hour up from it, if that.

I wonder if they'll keep both store open. Interesting to see what happens.

Supposedly CapitalOne will be taking over the credit card accounts.

I don't know anything about CapitalOne besides "What's in your wallet" with Nick Fury and Alias lady or the funnier earlier commercials with the barbarians.  Are they hit or miss like most credit card companies?

Not sure about their credit cards but my daughter just got financing from them to buy a new car.  Give me about 6 months and I'll tell you how that goes.

I've had a CapOne card for years.  No issues, but I don't carry a balance.

All I have heard is if you get behind on payments and try to negotiate a settlement they either won't do it or are total bastards about it compared to other companies (paraphrasing what I heard the few times I listened to Dave Ramsay).

I used them for my car loan, no issues.  I had savings at ING Direct that was bought by them, no issues.

They are about in line with most CC companies. They aren't as bad as the bottom feeders, they aren't as good as some of the better cards.

Several years ago the guy I worked for was going through a divorce -- a nasty divorce. He and his wife were separated -- not legally but physically, since she had moved in with a paramour. All of a sudden, the boss started getting credit card bills from CapitalOne. It took some investigating and rattling of cages, but it turned out that CapitalOne had allowed the wife to open a new credit card account in the husband's name, with him as the responsible party for the card, without ever asking him or getting anything from him to authorize issuing a card to her under an account SHE established in HIS name.

I don't carry balances either, probably saves us from the majority of credit card related issues.  As long as there aren't any glaring issues with them I'll probably stay since I have Cabelas points too.

I have a CapOne card. Only issue I've ever had with them is their propensity to jack up interest rates at the drop of a hat. Otherwise okay if you don't carry a balance, or at least a minimal amount.
