Anybody else see "Casino Royale"?

Pretty good flick as Bond movies go... Does anyone know if it's true to the original CR script or was this a total rewrite? I was too young the first time it came out, moomy wouldn't let me watch it. It's rated PG13 too, No nudity but plenty of violence, perfect for the average teen.

In 1954, producer and director Gregory Ratoff of CBS paid Ian Fleming $1,000 to adapt Casino Royale into a one-hour television adventure as part of their Climax! series. Additionally, in the late 1950s CBS invited Fleming to write 32 episodes over a two-year period for a television show based on the James Bond character. Fleming agreed and began to write outlines for this series. When nothing ever came of this, however, Fleming grouped and adapted three of the outlines into short stories and released the 1960 anthology For Your Eyes Only along with an additional two new short stories.

The episode, Casino Royale, aired on October 21, 1954 and starred Barry Nelson as secret agent "Card Sense" James 'Jimmy' Bond and Peter Lorre as Le Chiffre. For this Americanised version of the story, Bond is described as an agent for "Combined Intelligence" (apparently confusing what the "C" in CIA stood for), while the character Felix Leiter from the original novel became "Clarence Leiter," an agent for Station S, and a combination of Leiter and Rene Mathis. The name "Mathis" was given to the leading lady, who is named Valerie Mathis (instead of Vesper Lynd).

This was the first screen adaptation of a James Bond novel, and was made before EON acquired the Bond film rights

There was also a spoof film named Casino Royale released in 1967.

I can't say whether or not it was faithful to the original but I thought it was the best Bond movie in a long time.  I was skeptical about Daniel Craig but I think he did a great job.  And Eva Green is just incredibly hot.  Great movie.

I may have been thinking of the '67 spoof. Yea, the opening chase scene up on the cranes was pretty incredible. I don't know who really did those scenes but I can't believe the weren't tethered somehow. I have to imagine you can "photoshop" harnesses and ropes these days. Amazing stunt work, you'd have a hard time getting me up on one of those things like that. 

Eva is cute but I was kind of attached to the first one that ended up in the hammock.

Haven't seen it, but the buzz I've been hearing is that it is much grittier than previous Bond films, and without the wizz-bang gadgets and cheesy jokes.

I'd say that would be a fair assesment. There's a FEW wiz bangers but I don't recall any rockets popping out of the Aston. They have the audacity to riddle a fuel truck with hundreds of rounds, fuel spilling everywhere out the bullet holes and then not blow it up.  That was pretty funny in the afterthought stage.

It is a little grittier, but it's still Bond. They did away with most of the cheesy dialogue, except for one line which provoked groans from the audience I was in.

There's flashbacks to the two assassinations that made Bond a 00, and then there's that torture scene, which wasn't bloody but will make any watching male wince like they may never have winced before.

I liked it a lot, and I'm not much of a Bond fan. Will make an effort to see the future Craig as Bond efforts.

I was impressed with Daniel Craig but I still think Clive Owen is James Bond incarnate.  Unfortunately, he disagrees and turned down the role.

I just saw it today.

Honestly, I thought I was going to hate it.  Brosnon made great action movies, but he was no Ian Flemming Bond.

This was one of the best Bond movies ever.

I was true to who James Bond was supposed to be.

I've read all the books, and own most of them.  He hit it perfect.

fistful - dunno, I liked the Dalton films from what I remember of them. Seem to remember that they were a little nastier too. Agree though, can't stand Moore.

Connery is Bond in my mind, there can never be another.  I was talked into watching the first Moore movie and have scorned the rest.  I've not seen anything by Dalton or Brosnan and don't plan on seeing this latest poser either.

Actually, fans protested because Craig's NOT your garden-variety pretty boy like those last three.  OK, Moore's not pretty, but he is obnoxiously polished.

I thought his "style" of running looked familiar. 

I loved the movie for all the reasons listed above.  I too didn't expect to like it, but I'm sold on Craig as the new Bond.

Go to the wiki article and look at the list of movies that feature it.  That "District B13" got pretty good reviews as a cop film, in addition to the running.

Well, I just finished the book.  I think they did a pretty good job of keeping with the story.  Obviously, there were some changes.  It doesn't do to have the bad guys as commies.  No Africans in the book, either.  Other than, though, it was pretty close.

IMHO, Moore was the worst of the Bonds, Connery the best (of course) and Lazenby did a credible job in the one Bond flick he made. (Of course, some of the Moore flics were so cheesy with "Jaws" and spaceships that they could easily have shown up on MST3000)

The other two Bonds (Dalton and Brosnan) just sort of blur together . . . if they were selling Bonds in the supermarket, you could get either of them in the black and white "Generic 007" container.

Lazenby!  Thank you!  When I was a kid I remember seeing a Bond movie and going "who is this guy" the entire time I was watching it, and ever since I've vaguely remembered it as the Bond movie with that weird guy who wasn't very good.  Now, thanks to you and IMDB, I know (until I forget it tomorrow, anyway) that the movie in question was On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

Those of you who like the freerunning, look up "free running" or "parkour" or "yamakasi" on any of the video sites. There's a lot of crap to wade through, but there's also some absolutely amazing stuff.
