Robert Pickton, a serial killer in Vancouver BC who preyed on prostitutes, was notorious for this.  Of note, I don't know if it is because I am exposed to the local media, but I wonder if the PNW has more serial killers of prostitutes per capita than other areas.  I certainly read more about them in this area than in other areas.
