Hopeless

Michele Obama, that is:

http://nytlive.nytimes.com/womenintheworld/2016/12/16/michelle-obama-says-america-is-entering-a-time-of-hopelessness/

Yes, the First Lady claims Trump's election leaves the country without hope. And she waxes ... eloquent? delusional, perhaps ... about Barry's promises of "hope and change." These people genuinely have no comprehension of the reality that nearly half the country (45.7% in 2008, 47.2% in 2012) felt pretty hopeless when Barry was elected.

Quote
“We are feeling what not having hope feels like,” Obama told Winfrey in response to a question about whether President Obama had achieved the “hope and change” he promised while campaigning in 2008.

Did I say "delusional"? Yes, I believe I did. Case in point:

Quote
“We feel the difference now,” she said, noting that her husband had succeeded in keeping his campaign promise of fostering hope.

Mrs. Obama certainly seems delusional, I have no argument there.

It's worth remembering however, especially places like this where we get excited about politics that the above isn't quite right.  More than half the country apparently didn't care one way or another about Obama and his hope (or lack there of).  Less than 1/5th of the country voted for Romney in 2012. It's easy to forget that the largest majority in any recent US election is the one that doesn't care enough to vote either way.  We should remember that no one got any kind of "mandate from the people".

. . .  Less than 1/5th of the country voted for Romney in 2012.
With just under 61,000,000 votes, roughly 4 out of 5 people in a country of over 300,000,000 didn't vote for Romney.

BUT . . . that 300,000,000+ number includes children, aliens (legal and illegal), and other people ineligible to vote. So by THAT measurement, NO POTUS has EVER gotten the vote of a majority of the country.

Not even George Washington.

Trump won in 2016. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.

I notice that right after her talk about a hopeless country with racist problems, a black family of four boarded a private, luxurious jet bound for Hawaii, where they'll be on a three week luxury vacation. If only The Deplorables would hold me back like that.

In the 2016 election, neither candidate broke the 50 percent mark out of total votes cast. Trump had 46% and Clinton had 48.1%. If it were a poll rather than the election, the difference would be considered a statistical tie. Yet the butthurt liberals are wailing and gnashing their teeth as if their [losing] candidate had amassed a massive mandate that was unfairly and unjustly ripped away from her.

Also, how many people in states that are solidly red or blue don't bother to vote?  How many anti-Trump Republicans stayed home?  If the election were about total votes only, a lot of things would be different.

My sentiments exactly.
