Recommendations for AR-15 collapsible stock
« on: February 24, 2017, 10:19:59 AM »
I have a Colt Sporter SP-1 that was manufactured in the early 1980's.  It has the original stock on it.  I have been pondering a collapsible stock.  Does the Collective have a recommendation for an excellent quality collapsible stock that I can install?  I am looking for something well-made, durable and sturdy.  I have used some collapsible stocks that wiggled all over the place.

I've got a Magpul CTR on one of my rifles that I'm pretty happy with.

Magpul STR.  The "storage compartments" give you a good cheekweld.  I had a milspec stock, but switched to the STR after trying it at a gun show.

Your choice of buffer tube/receiver extension is just as important as the stock itself. If its a cheap-o you may get undue wobble regardless of your stock's pricetag/brand name.

"Good" buffer tubes can be out of spec and cheap-o ones can be in spec.  Same for the stock.  Mine is a cheap one and the STR doesn't wobble, but the stock that was on it wobbled around like a drunk.  The STR was so tight at first, I thought it was a mismarked stock for a commercial buffer tube.  FWIW, I've seen "matched" sets from better manufacturers wobble too.

I prefer the ACS-L over the STR. It's just personal preference, either one works. Lanbo's Armory has below MAP pricing when you add to cart, and I haven't had any problems ordering from them.

CTR is adept at snagging beard hair, if you're one of us who refuses to shave anymore

I have used the BCM stock and the Daniel Defense stock.  I like both, but they look very different.  The DD has a butt pad you can swap.

The magpul ACS is similar to the BCM.

I guess all those above are at a comfortable price point for me.

I have the Magpul UBR on my 6.8 rifle.  It is nice, but more expensive.

Someone mentioned grabbing beard hairs.  The standard mil-spec stock definitely does that to me.

 ACE ARFX.

I also have an AR-UL that I like better than any of my adjustable stocks.

That is nice.  The ACE stocks I have seen in the past did not have QD attachment points or practical sling attachment points at all.

I was trying to find ACE's web page and the search engines don't seem to way to find it.

I put a UBR on my .308.  That thing is rock solid.  I really like it.

ACE is part of Doublestar now.  That link I provided goes to the Doublestar sight.  The OP wanted adjustable stocks, but I really like their stocks.

I have one of their stocks on my Zastava N-PAP AK.  They had all the adapters needed to make it fit.

I love my UBR as well, but it is pricier, and it is heavy.

But the cheekweld and the rock-solid adjustments were worth it.
I promise not to duck.
