California's Prop 63 stimulating demand for ammo
« on: April 06, 2017, 08:55:43 PM »
For those unfamiliar: Prop 63 requires all ammo purchases by California residents go through a California dealer, effectively outlawing online purchases.  This has had predictable results:  California gun owners are buying up all the ammo they can before the law takes effect in 2018:

Of course, I'm sure the gangbangers and other criminals will be dutifully buying their ammo in-state.

They can't do that.  It's against the law.

It's too bad that no CA gun owners own a car.

How many gun stores are just across the border in other states?

Quite a few, and you can bet the Cali DOJ will be watching at least some of them, as they already do with gun shows.

Going to need to pick up ammo on the way to vegas so you come back in with it later.

Yeah, Reno and Vegas and probably some AZ border towns (not familiar if any are popular with the gun crowd) will be covered. Not sure about the Oregon border - there's really just Ashland. Doubt they'll be staking out ID and UT though.  =D

I wonder how many online dealers will still be willing to ship? It's also illegal to purchase a "high-capacity" mag in California. While most companies voluntarily comply with that, some will still ship to Cali; and it doesn't stop anyone from buying it from a web forum or a facebook group sale.

The proggies don't care about the work-arounds.

They don't care that it will do nothing to stop gangs (who are one of their constituencies anyway).

They don't care about stopping the random spree shooter as they get to stand on the bodies and pontificate.

They just want something on the books to frighten people.

Charge stacking is a thing and the more charges that can be stacked the more control they have over a defendant. The more control they have, the more concessions they get.

It's all about legal blackmail.
