Emma Watson wins "best actor" award?
« on: May 08, 2017, 11:22:44 AM »
Apparently there was another Hollywood awards ceremony, and Emma Watson won the award for "best actor". The powers that be decided to eliminate gender specific titles such as "actress".

I'm confused. Because of the feminists, we had to stop using pronouns such as "he", "him", etc when referring to people in general and not gender specifically. Now we're told to use a gender specific title to refer to people generally.

Of course, it was necessary to give the award to a woman on the first use of this gender neutral use. My guess is that next year they'll scrape the bottom of the barrel to find a transgender actor ("actress"? "Actron"?)

I'm so confused.

You know, it really makes me wonder what these Adam Hotels would do if they living in, and spoke a language native to, one of the countries with a language that has VERY clear demarcations between male and female.

This was the MTV awards, where they also gave Maxine Waters a standing ovation, so take it with all the seriousness that it deserves. :)

I couldn't care less about the academy awards, and I don't know who Emmy Watson is.  Did she deserve the award more than the other nominees?  If so, I think one "best actor" award instead of separate actor and actress is a good thing.  If she obviously didn't deserve the award, then it's just more SJW pandering bullshit.

I'm kinda meh on this one.  There's no real reason to separate the sexes for acting awards (except Porn).  I know they always have, but why continue.  According to the article I googled on this, they dumped sex separation in the Grammy's in 2011.

I like Emma Watson's acting, she's a skilled actress, but I didn't watch Beauty and the Beast so I have no idea how well she did in it.

I also don't really care much about professional awards for professions other than mine.

Does anyone have a count on how many acting awards there are out there?  Maybe narrow it down to just those that get TV time.  I guess the various music awards would add a bunch more.

For that matter, is Arabic as ultra-specific about such things as Hebrew?

Yes. My wife has studied more than I, but I know you have different greetings for a man than for a woman. (As an example.) They of course also have different words for a male or female [NOUN].
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

Wait...are we questioning that part?  'Cuz I'll volunteer to take one for the team and check Emma quite thoroughly.

I think you have it about right, not that any of those celebrity awards really matter to the rest of us.

Apparently just about no one watched the ceremony.

Joke on the radio this morning was that Watson won the award because she was the only one who bothered to show up.

About where I am on it. It's not sports; there is no physical reason to separate the sexes for acting awards, so who cares one way or the other?

On the plus side, having only one reward for best actor/actress cuts down on the ceremony length....

Isn't the Screen Actors' Guild one of the last few industries where there really is a wage gap between the sexes?  (maybe that's why they are always preaching at the rest of us about it)

This just in - Emma Watson has decamped to the U.K., until she can engage a larger protective detail in the U.S.

I have feeling that as soon as there are a few years in a row of men winning, then some people will be talking about bringing separate awards back.

More likely the people that make the selection will pick non-males for the foreseeable future and any cis-male that makes mention of that fact will be pilloried and blackballed from whollyweird.

Yes. But
Ever heard of Latinx?

I've heard of the concept, I didn't know that it had been given a name. As far as I can tell, it's not gained much traction because the gender demarcation of the romance languages is so pervasive that attempting to "sanitize" for these morons essentially makes it collapse into incomprehensibility.
