The War on Women Who Are Men And Can't Breastfeed

Quote
If someone told you that you shouldn’t say breastfeeding is natural, would you heed her advice? That’s exactly what writers Jessica Martucci and Anne Barnhill argue in an online pediatrics journal this month. “We are concerned about breastfeeding promotion that praises breastfeeding as the “natural” way to feed infants,” they write....

As the obscuration of biological distinction continues, breastfeeding naturally becomes a target for political correctness. Thus, the case for breastfeeding will soon be dismantled. It won’t be a full out attack or denial of its benefits. Those benefits will simply be downplayed, just as these authors state that “a spate of recent work challenges the extent of these benefits.” Posters will be removed. Pro-breastfeeding campaigns will be defunded. OB-GYNs and midwives will no longer be encouraged to share the benefits of breastfeeding with patients.

I guess I should buy stock in formula.

Well this should be fun to watch.  Le Leche League is a pretty strong international group.  Pretty well funded, too.  Should be fun to see when they go head to head with the anti-gender groups.

Wasn't feeding babies formula all the rage as recently as the 80's and 90's?  I don't keep up on kids feeding trends but I thought the militant breast feeders were a relatively new phenomenon anyway.

Maybe we can find a way to implant actual mammary glands instead of silicon.

I've always been rather mystified by how strong of opinions people have on breastfeeding. I also don't really see the trans angle in the original article, but I'm not familiar with the authors or organization they write for so maybe there is a history there.

There is a surprising (at least to me) amount of pressure to breastfeed these days. I have heard about adoptive mothers who attempted hormone therapy that would allow them to breastfeed and ended up with malnourished babies.  =(
In the moral, catatonic stupor America finds itself in today it is only disagreement we seek, and the more virulent that disagreement, the better.

My ex- was Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse.  The way she described Le Leche League (and from what I witnessed in two different "Soon to be a Parent" classes) struck me as very militant and came across as "If you feed your babies on formula, you are a failure as a parent and should be reported to DCFS for child neglect."

^^^And this attitude really affects those women who cannot breastfeed, for whatever reason.  On a side note, I recall reading an article in the WSJ some time back stating that diapers and formula are among the most commonly shoplifted items.

When is this insanity going to end? Should we just go ahead and legalize bestiality and animal/man marriage now rather than have to go through the anguish of marches and protests?

That's because it's EXPENSIVE. Katie got sort of lucky with Emily. For some reason the only diapers that didn't give the kid a rash were the baby's r us generics. OTOH, Emily got diarrhea from all formula except one of the pricier ones.

It really is absurd how expensive that stuff gets. I feel bad for woman who can't breastfeed, even if they want to. If nothing else, it's a hell of a lot cheaper than buying formula.

Breastfeeding is best for moms that can, and for babies that can.  For those that can't, thank God there's formula or those babies would die.  For that choose not to, it's not like formula is bad, and it's their choice.  I don't want people telling me what to eat now, and wouldn't want anyone forcing either choice on my wife and kids.

That said, having groups like LLL is fine to the extent they help support people that otherwise might not stick with breastfeeding their baby.  There are a lot of women that try it, and give up because they don't manage to get it quite right on their own.  Teaching them how to get the baby latched on properly, and also how to monitor their intake is important.

It will, however, be interesting watching LLL types and the tranny groups go after each other.   [popcorn]

Nope, sorry.  We will have to go through the NAMBLA and NAWGLA Marches, Rallies, and "Awareness Raising" first before we can get the Animal/Man marriage Marches, Rallies, and Protests.  We're still on the People/Inanimate Objects Marriage phase.

And whenever I read one of these "I'm a bigger victim than you" stories of the left devouring their own, I can only think of those immortal words of Eric Cartman:

If we do that, different flavors will follow.

How dare you try to make male breastfeeding seem natural and possible? Don't you care if it triggers those of us who can't?

Now that I've partially read the article (and killed it because it loaded funky*)

I really wish the idiots would stop conflating sex and biology with gender and gender roles. The basic facts of life include the simple reality that breast feeding is a natural function of the female of the species. The fact that breastfeeding usually leads social norms to make the mother the primary caregiver to the child is a whole 'nother kettle of fish.

Furthermore, studies have shown that there are significant health and wellness benefits for the child being breastfed for the first 9 months (after that it seems that any benefits are minor at best) So, IMHO, to hell with gender roles, medical professionals should promote breastfeeding for mothers who are capable of doing so.
