Min. wage going way down in St. Louis, MO

Quote
Although Missouri’s minimum wage is $7.70 per hour statewide, St. Louis already raised its minimum wage in 2015, with another increase to $11 per hour planned for January. After a two-year legal fight with local business groups, a bill was ultimately passed by the state legislature this spring that bars cities and counties from setting their own minimum wages above the state’s minimum. The bill takes effect on Aug. 28.

An interesting question in local control. Should cities be allowed to set price controls, or must state governments preserve the rights of employees and employers to negotiate freely?

Another question - how does this affect MO's chance of becoming a right-to-work state?

Legalities aside, I think it's amazing that simple economics seems to be beyond some people's comprehension.  I'm sure they think a higher min wage in a city will make it a beacon of prosperity, but it will end up being an island with no businesses.
