Not surprising since it's Portland, but seriously? Now the last name "Lynch" is offensive?

Up here recently we've had a fair amount of well, call it 'churn' over a name of a local elementary school.

The school was named based on the road it's on.  Badger road elementary school.

Trouble is, Badger road was named after Harry M. Badger, who contributed quite a bit to the town in the early 1900s. 

Turned out, Harry was also a convicted child rapist.  Oops.

They're spending $35k to change the name on all the signs to "Midnight sun".  Other options were "Ura Major" and "Tr'enyaxde" - a native name opposed by the natives because they know that it's going to be shortened into something 'disrespectful'.  ;)
