I finally managed to squeeze in a range trip today. I can usually work it in about quarterly, which is why I'm still a mediocre shot at best. Sometimes being an adult sucks.
Today's trip I took three pistols along, all 9mm polymer. First, a while back I picked up a SIG P250C .22lr, and recently bought a 9mm conversion kit for it. Then I won a NIB Ruger LC9s Pro at a local auction to liquidate assets from a LGS that went under. I also brought my Ruger SR9c, only planning to shoot it if the other two were duds. It's my go-to plasic 9mm. I ended up not shooting it today.
I grabbed a couple hundred rounds of WWB from the closet, a box of American Eagle FMJ, and a box each of Hornady HST +P, Hornady Critical Defense, and Hornady Critical Duty +P. I decided to bring along pen and paper and make note of any issues.
I put the 50 rounds of American Eagle and 50 more rounds of the WWB through the SIG P250. The P250 is the definition of "boringly reliable" if that first hundred rounds is anything to go by. It doesn't have that light trigger you get with a single action or a striker, but it's very smooth and easy to shoot. Not much to say about it past that.
The LC9s Pro was a mixed bag, but I suspect ammo more than anything. I ran the other 150 rounds of WWB through it, and experienced 6 failures to extract. Not eject, the old case stayed right there in the chamber when it tried to feed a new one. I then put all 75 rounds of the SD ammo I brought along through the LC9s. Not one hiccup with any of them. I plan to pick up some different brands of FMJ and a couple hundred more rounds of Critical Defense and Critical Duty for a future test. In the meantime, I'll stick to my S&W 649 for CCW.
I did notice the magazine release on the LC9s was difficult to work at times. I don't know if that has anything to do with the Hogue handall I put on it. It doesn't appear to be making contact, but it may be getting in my way. I'm going to trim a little bit of it off below the mag release and see if it makes a difference.
