I believe we had a thread going on this when he and his family were "rescued" and brought home. IIRC, they went to canada because he was afraid to enter the U.S. for some reason. (And I don't remember if the reason was ever identified.)

^^^He thought the US would arrest and try him on terrorism charges based upon his brief marriage to a woman with relatives in Al Qaida.  I wonder if he perpetrated the alleged crimes upon his wife or someone else.

I get the impression the victim was his wife. And she's defending him -- typical battered wife syndrome. Although based on the earlier stories, from when they were brought home, I didn't get a sense that she's the brightest bulb in the string to start, and it seemed that he had pretty much brainwashed her.
