They've been doing that for years.

Few years ago we had a blizzard in DC Metro.

It was so bad that President OUR FACES ARE MELTING IT'S SO *expletive deleted*ing HOT!!! had to take a motorcade from Andrews AFB to the White House because conditions were so bad...

The irony? He was returning from an international OUR FACES ARE MELTHING IT'S SO *expletive deleted*ing HOT!!! conference...

The acolytes claim the current cold is due to unprecedented melting of arctic sea ice.

Hmmm ...

I found it funny when I read yesterday, that people were attacking Trump for his tweet about the cold snap where he also dissed global warming. They were all yelling about, "Trump is an idiot! This is weather, not climate! How stupid can he be!?!"

They were correct of course. However, the funny part was that many of the people that attacked him are the same AGW fanatics who scream about how we're all going to die of "climate change" because of an above average week in August, or a hurricane above force 3. Or an earthquake, or an asteroid passing by.

Like I always say, if you want to talk to me about planetary climate, get back to me in 10,000 years.

We've had reasonably accurate temperature records in North America for maybe 300-400 years.
We can even extrapolate data from tree rings and other sources but none of that will prove that at anytime before records have been kept the continent hasn't experienced any number of brief cold snaps.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

I still use the Vikings as my frame of reference. Sometime around 900 to 950 A.D. the Vikings discovered Greenland. Our first clue is that they named it "Green"land, not "White"land. They settled there, in several different locations up and down the western side of Greenland, and lived in an agrarian society for approximately 500 years. Then around 1400 to 1450 they abandoned the settlements and left Greenland. Why? Because it had gotten too cold.

So, when it becomes too hot to farm on Greenland, then maybe talk to me about "global warming." Until then it's just cyclical normalization.

I thought the Vikings flipped the names of Greenland and Iceland just to be ironic.

From the mid 1400s to the mid 1800s there were a couple of periods of signifcant worldwide cooling, to the point where it was called the Little Ice Age.

It got cold enough in Britain over that period that the Thames at London a number of times froze solid enough that they held "frost fairs" on the ice. The last one was in 1814.

The big significance of the Thames freezing at London is that it's tidal there, so it takes lot more to freeze it than farther up river where it's not tidal.

The AlGore is still at it: http://www.climatedepot.com/2018/01/04/al-gore-bitter-cold-is-exactly-what-we-should-expect-from-the-climate-crisis/

Cold is the result of global warming climate change.

But ... from the article:

Quote
Gore’s Oscar-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth did not warn of record cold and increasing snowfalls as a consequence of man-made global warming. And as recently as 2009, Gore was hyping the lack of snow as evidence for man-made global warming. Source: “Gore Reports Snow and Ice Across the World Vanishing Quickly.”
