Ban water?
« on: January 18, 2007, 07:46:16 AM »
Freedom is a heavy load, a great and strange burden for the spirit to undertake. It is not easy. It is not a gift given, but a choice made, and the choice may be a hard one. The road goes upward toward the light; but the laden traveller may never reach the end of it.  - Ursula Le Guin

As I recall, a similar death of a teen was used as propaganda against MDMA, where in actuality the teen and her friends had heard of the dehydration effect from users who do NOT drink, so overloaded with water.
I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.

We don't want to ban all water.  We firmly support the rights of Americans to own the water they need for legal drinking, washing and cooking purposes.  What we call for is common-sense water control, to ensure that large capacity water bottles and fully-automatic running water do not end up in the wrong hands.

"Let us not forget the so-called 'water-hoses' that were used against peacfully-marching African-Americans during their battle for civil rights.  Water is a tool of civil oppression in the hands of violent government officials."

Seek out wisdom in books, rare manuscripts, and cryptic poems if you will, but seek it also in simple stones and fragile herbs and in the cries of wild birds. Listen to the song of the wind and the roar of water if you would discover magic, for it is here that the old secrets are still preserved.

You guys (and gals) are terrible.

It's just not fair that you're so adept at parodying opposing points of view.

On the original subject, it's rather sad that a contest turned fatal. Sad

Not just fatal, there's now a sheriff's department criminal investigation ongoing.

So the radio station fired 10 people, including the show promoters and the disk jockeys associated with "Hold your Wee for a Wii".

Doesn't anybody pay attention to the news?  It wasn't that long ago that an airman at Lackland died from acute water intoxication.

Never mind that angry listeners phoned in and reminded the disk jockeys that there were more than a couple incidents where folks died from the practice.

Duh.  Like some waiver they had the deceased sign is going to protect them from the upcoming lawsuit.   rolleyes
"Bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round...

I've heard the replay of the radio show, it's pretty disturbing.  She had apparently drunk so much water she appeared pregnant and bloated, but the hosts were laughing at her.  The Romans have nothing on us when it comes to public cruelty and cynical disregard for life in the name of entertainment.

They never forced them. I'd say the blame is shared somewhat, but I don't feel sorry for those that died.
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.
