Generator question
« on: March 11, 2018, 09:11:29 PM »
I have an old but good quality (so I'm told) generator dating back to Hurricane Gloria in 1985. It has no 240-volt outlet, but four 120-volt outlets. I'm wondering if all four outlets are on the same phase, or if I could make up a custom cord with one hot leg from each of the banks on the generator, a common neutral, and a ground and use that to serve as an emergency feed for my house when the power goes out.

Are there any generator experts in the house?

Make and model?

WHATEVER YOUR DEFINITION OF "INFRINGE " IS, YOU SHOULDN'T BE DOING IT.

If you want to know how it is wired internally, start probing around with a multimeter.  If you find 240V between legs in different sockets, well, there you go.

In either case, you can power all your 120V house systems off a 120V generator with a cord.
