I keep getting these phone calls...
« on: March 29, 2019, 08:53:11 AM »
Every other day or so I get a phone call and there is no voice. I can tell the line is open for awhile then it clicks off. I finally figured it out.
Mimes. They keep calling me but I can't see what they are miming. Next time instead of getting mad about the interruption, I'm going to suggest they FaceTime me.
Are they calling any of you? It might be like their annual fund drive for the disabled mime foundation or something but we have no idea!
What we have here is failure to communicate.

I will vote for any politician who has a real plan to eliminate robocalling.  Gun control?  Healthcare for all?  No *expletive deleted*s given if they will invade whatever shithole country these robocalls are coming from, and publicly execute whoever is making them.

Funny - a day after I rolled into Idyho, my nephew in law texted me and asked if I had called him, because he got two calls in a row from 208. Almost got me paranoid to thinking my phone contacts got hacked.

I read yesterday that several of the evil corporations against "net neutrality" have gotten together to attack the robo-callers.

I get lots of calls that I don't recognize; I let the answering machine or voicemail get them, and if they don't leave a message I ignore them.  (they never leave a message) But every once in a while I'll answer one if the same number has come up multiple times on the caller ID and they've been particularly annoying, like always hanging up after 2 rings.  And it sometimes is just an open line with nobody there.  Probably a robocaller shop with too many robots and not enough Indians.

Actually, the 2-ringer, I called back the caller ID number.  It was the NRA and I told them to stop calling.  They did.

My wife has gotten a number of robocalls spoofing her own cell number recently.  Her sister got two robocalls spoofing my wife's cell number.
Not sure how they are doing that.  I hope her phone hasn't been hacked.
For a long time I would get robocalls from "Adrian" asking if I would sell my property.  Sometimes I'd get two or three a day on my personal cell, and they almost always spoofed a different number.  And "Adrian" always left the same canned voicemail since I didn't pick up the phone.  Of course every number he called from was added to my blocked caller list, but being an Android phone, blocked calls can still leave a voicemail.
I am sure my blocked caller list at least five times longer than my legit contacts list on that phone.
If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale.  Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

My wife often says to me, "You are evil and must be destroyed." She may be right.

Liberals believe one should never let reason, logic and facts get in the way of a good emotional argument.

Don't know if it would still work, but years ago I started my answering machine message with the 3 tones the phone company uses for disconnected lines. Took a while, but the calls stopped.
A plan is just a list of things that doesn't happen.
Is defenestration possible through the overton window?

Wow! I need that. My home landline must receive at least 50 robo calls for every real call from someone I might actually know or want to speak to. What are the three tones, and how do you insert them into the message?

I used the 3 tones, then my voice saying "we're sorry, noone is here right now, leave a message"

I read somewhere a long time ago that just the first 2 tones is usually enough to stop a robocaller.  It won't annoy your real callers as much.
