  • Where'd my explosive space modulator go?
I'm working on fixing up dad's chevy S10 pickup.  2003, 2.2L engine.  There's a short connector/gasket on the top of the engine that is disintegrating.  It connects a hollow plastic box that has a connection from the air filter to it, to the engine.  It's secured by a hose clamp and is about an inch wide, about 3" in diameter.

I ended up taking the box off so I could get to the spark plugs.

Any help would be appreciated.

PCV Valve / crankcase breather.
I might not last very long or be very effective but I'll be a real pain in the ass for a minute!

It sounds like you are talking about the seal between the intake resonator and the throttle body.  wait one sec.

See pic:

If what I circled in Orange is the part you are describing, it should be this:

Part 16 (and 15 for the clamp) on the parts diagram shown here

Dogmush, thank you very much!  That is indeed exactly what I was looking for, I couldn't find a good diagram or even picture like that when I went looking.  Internet is a bit more limited here for me than at home.

Dad just isn't as able with this stuff anymore.  Replacing spark plug wires (two disintegrated in my hands), fuel filter, and doing an oil change.  Getting a bluetooth ODB2 reader so I can check the engine stuff, he had somebody do it at work which is why he got the wires.  And a distributor cap that is for a different vehicle.  :/

Totally didn't know that the box is a resonator.  Once I knew what it was called, all the searches fell into place.  Googles air intake resonator - Oh, that's interesting.  Increases power AND reduces noise.  Interesting.

edit:  And ordered.
