I found this on a link from a Seattle Times story, and it is not a joke.  The local Duwamish tribe, who once occupied the Seattle area, thinks that non-Duwamish Seattle residents should pay them Real Rent reparations for their land being stolen.  You can even print out a holiday placemat to remind you of your obligations.  Unfortunately, there is no way to contact the organization, and I was going to encourage them if their land was unjustly seized by military force, they should seize it right back via military force.

Seems to be a legal mish-mosh.  It figures, since the Ninth Circuit Court of Schlemiels is involved.

What I got out of it, was they could fish without licenses.

So in other words, a group of people calling themselves a "tribe," which is not recognized by the federal government as a tribe, AND which accepted payment for "their" land 48 years ago, now wants to unilaterally renege on a contract they (or their ancestors) entered into, and attempt to accomplish by guilt trip that which they cannot accomplish by other legal means.

What kind of "stewardship" are they providing over the land that downtown Seattle sits on? Are they rotating the sidewalk crops? Are they maintaining the irrigation ditches?

Their appeal is significantly lacking in both specificity and logic.
