Homeless Go Fund Me
« on: December 22, 2019, 11:10:25 AM »
As some of the comments allude, can you imagine the mess this "shiny city of hope" would turn into within, I don't know, three months? Not to mention the price. These people have obviously never seen a homeless camp, where a clean area is turned into the worst third world garbage dump and sewer within days of homeless moving in.

The kind of homeless that are there through bad luck (versus perpetually homeless as a lifestyle) avoid regular homeless camps. Though this city seems to be designed for those "down on their luck" homeless, and that segment could actually benefit from something like this (though this design is somewhat extravagent), those are not the homeless they would get. This would be the worst areas of San Francisco times ten.

They can run the high speed rail to it for the 3 or 4 people that will actually live there

Ooh!  Underground tunnels!  Let me commute from my communal dorm to my low-wage job via tunnels filled with my stalwart colleagues, none of whom have psychiatric or substance issues.

Pedestrian tunnels? In California? ???

Televisions? Why?

Theater seating for the televisions? Yeah, that won't be a disaster.

Providing for proles.

Within a very short time, this multi-billion dollar endeavor will look something like this:

After which it will go downhill.

A couple good quotes from the link.

You're dealing with people that cannot handle the most basic day to day tasks.
This plan would require a city's worth of competent staff to maintain.

At first I was thinking "What a Great Idea!"  Then I realized they weren't going to put walls up all around it and not let anyone out.

The other part is there is no way they will build this for ONLY 3 billion dollars with all of California's regulations getting in the way.

there has to be some kind of way to allow homeless people to legally camp somewhere near mass transportation.
I am so sick of the assumption that "refusing homeless shelters/services" means that one actually likes dire situations.
I'm currently back indoors, one paycheck away from sleeping in my truck again, i had to put my gun in the pawn shop to do it.
No one reading this would ever step foot in a homeless shelter, for good reasons.
They're gun free zones in a place where you absolutely need a gun.
sex offenders/bed bugs and TB are what you experience at homeless shelters.
why can't a working person camp/car camp in some municipal parking lot that has regular police patrols /porta potties .
simply enforcing like loud music and public drinking would allow homeless people to improve their situation by being able to get to sleep .
however, this proposal is doomed to failure.
a well patrolled tent city that strictly enforced noise/drug/health codes would improve everyones life .

my truck is going on 290 thousand miles and it wont last much longer, the current job at the temp agency is due to be over soon.
if you want to gofundme a 2 or 3 thousand dollr van - i am gme

Gunsmith - hopefully without picking on you or offending you, you're actually the kind of person I figured would theoretically benefit from a place like this (again, theoretically vs how things turn out in the real world). If it actually came into existence in the way its authors want, it would be a clean place where a person could live temporarily to build up a nest egg and lift themselves up.

However, again,  I see the place the same as most homeless shelters - a place that truly homeless (vs vagrants, addicts, etc.) would end up avoiding because it would be invaded and overwhelmed by the "professional homeless". Then there are either not enough resources to police the places for the "bad" homeless, or else the SJWs and their lawyers step in to say the bad homeless need a place to stay too, even to the detriment of the "good" homeless.

oh, not offended at all sir. =D

I can't recall what vexed me about the article, I'm sure it was that article or another one that said "gates locked at nine" - so if i forget to buy lunch for the next day I'm outta luck.

They seriously do not need any huge investment, a simple parking lot , maybe a fee to promote self reliance and pay for porta potties .
regular patrol by police.
they get a spot that is "theirs" for a week or two then must move to another spot ( discourages hoarding ).
The local walmarts are already semi legally doing this already .

I had more of a social life sleeping in the truck, I always hung out at a Sprouts grocery store because they have free wifi and a small area to eat where patrons could use the microwave for food they bought- i got to be friends with the staff.
This indoor plumbing and standing up to walk there is pretty cool, a guy could get used to it.
if i can I'm getting a van with my tax return and some luck- i hate paying so much for rent - i feel like i am paying for someone else's mortgage.
my rent dropped to 200 a week tho so ...we'll see

As a landlord: you don't just feel like it, you are.

One of the disservices we(Americans) do the homeless is make it really difficult to live not in a house, then act surprised when people don't do it successfully.

I read an article a little bit back about folks in LA living in cars and vans to save money.  These were folks with $50-$60k a year jobs, looking at the rent and commute in LA and choosing to live in cars and pay off college, or save to buy a house.  The article went into some detail about how the various cities made it pretty difficult to do that, and had policies that pushed them into the dangerous areas and exposed them to predation, all because they didn't want to pay a ton of rent.

There are/were a bunch of airline pilots and flight attendants doing that at LAX.  They would park a camper in the long-term or employee lot and live there.
