  • But they're SUPPOSED to be "military-style."

"...a state lawmaker explain(ed) that knives aren't defensive weapons.  Knives are the weapons of criminals and killers who want to strike quietly and flee."

Ah, but Mr. All Wise state legislator... you don't know how to read plain English.

Knives are "arms." too.  And you are pre-assuming (presuming) that they will be used in a criminal manner and cannot be used in a defensive encounter.

It's like the Saturday Night Special* laws.  Knives are inexpensive and within the means of poor people in general and blacks in particular.  Same as cheap handguns.  Poor people are harder to exploit if they are armed, so that just won't do.

*In Minnesota, I can't buy a Heritage Arms .22 Rough Rider single-action revolver; it is deemed a SNS because it has a nonferrous alloy (Zamak?) frame.  How many crimes are committed with $100 SAA revolvers? (rhetorical) I guess that shows how successful the laws are ((they are probably closer to $200 now))
"It's good, though..."

Visibly Armed Peasants would be an excellent name for a band.

What would you think of "Visibly Armed Patriots" instead?  =D

ILL-ANNOY is the same way.  They say it is because of the "low melting point" of parts of the guns.

Throw this in the mix.  Knives are, for the most part, less expensive than handguns.  Yet, even where a concealed handgun is permitted, concealed knives as weapons are not.  I remember seeing a state lawmaker explain that knives aren't defensive weapons.  Knives are the weapons of criminals and killers who want to strike quietly and flee.

Think about how many objects fit that use-case: hammers, vials of acid, scissors, and so on and so on.
Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God?

In the 1800's many judges had a hate on for bowie knives... and would rule they weren't protected by the Second Amendment because they weren't "military" weapons.
