Re-homed two puppies today
« on: February 23, 2022, 09:40:54 PM »
2 and a half weeks ago we found out that a relative by marriage had found 2 puppies on the side of the road.  We offered to take them rather than have them dumped at a private shelter.  We took them to a vet and had them checked out.  Both had worms, but neither was microchipped.  Cost us 165 bucks for shots, scanning, and check ups.  That's fine.  We socialized them with our 3 dogs, but my cat retreated to the upstairs.  We have been working on house breaking them with little success.  During that time my allergies and asthma have gone crazy.  I cough, gag and blow repeatedly, the worst being in the morning.  My wife finally admitted that she knew it was the puppies and thought she would take them to the shelter operated by the county we live in.  Nope.  Since we admitted taking them in and caring for them, the county says they can't be dropped off because they are no longer strays, or abandoned dogs.  They offered an appt for March 12 at which time they would consider accepting them for a "donation" unspecified of course.  Talk about extortion.  I was pissed to say the least.  We took them in and cared for them so that they would be stable to re-home.  We offered to give them all the vet info and receipts but that made no difference.  My wife put out word yesterday on her craft network and they were picked up this evening by a lady and her adult son.  The pups are Jack Russell mixes and she has had Jack Russels in the past.  I couldn't believe that the county shelter would pull that c**p.  That is the last time we agree to rescue any animals.  Even without having my allergies and asthma go haywire, the damage done to our front room laminate flooring is going to cost a bunch.  They would go out through the doggy door and play in the back yard, then come in a pee and poop on the floor.  I couldn't stay out with them due to my asthma so the burden fell on my wife.  Our 4 are settling back in with the 3 mutts out front getting treats and my cat sacked out in her spot on my bed.

In college we found a puppy that had most likely been dumped.  Rottweiler mix puppy, not more than 8 weeks old.  Cute, definitely would be spirited.  We named her Sam.  No chance of keeping her given the apartment we were in.  Gave her some food to help ease the bloating she was suffering from.  She farted so much the first night my wife about died.  She also cried most of that first night due to bloating.  But she was significantly better after just that first day with us.  Within a week though we’d taken her to a no-kill shelter we found.  I think it cost us $80, but that was well worth it knowing what special dog she would become.  The county run pound had a kill immediately policy on certain breeds, including Rottweilers.  We heard she got adopted within a day or two of leaving quarantine.

Allergies, dust, dander, pollen indoors.

Get a 19" fan.

Get a 20" furnace filter.

Dismount grillwork from intake side of fan.

Lay 20" filter on intake side.

Re-mount grill over filter.

Run on sneezing, sniffling, eye-running.

WHATEVER YOUR DEFINITION OF "INFRINGE " IS, YOU SHOULDN'T BE DOING IT.

And...

Get four HEPA filters, which are thicker, and harder to pull through. Do the same thing, but on the 6th side of the cube, just put a piece of plywood. More expensive, but a LOT cheaper than a HEPA filtration machine and the attendant special filters.

I went yesterday and got a Comfort Zone air purifier.  Set it up on the drop down lid of my antique desk and ran it on high all night.  It not only cleaned the air, it provided white noise to drown out the usual night noises that keep me on edge.  I woke up way later than normal with no coughing, gagging, or spitting up phlegm.  Well worth the money spent.  Our critters are back to their normal routine and all is well.  I never even heard my wife get up and around to go do her nanny duty this morning.

A few years ago my neighbor found 3 pups abandoned in a nearby field.  We took in the two males, he kept the female.

A couple/few hundred dollars later we had two neutered pups with all their shots.

They were the definitive "wild child".  My best guess is they'd been on their own just a bit too long; they killed some wildlife (rabbits mainly), which was OK.  Then the my two teamed up with his older male dog and killed his pregnant goat.  Talked with the neighbor, we didn't think they'd ever get over their killing livestock.  Mine are buried in the back yard, not sure where his dog ended up.

A sad day all around...
