Practically disposable at this price...
« on: October 11, 2022, 07:12:31 AM »
Bud's Guns has Legacy Sports Field Tek semi-auto shotguns for... $249.99.

https://www.legacysports.com/brands/pointer/pointer-field-tek/fieldtek-cerakote-and-wood/

They're actually damned nice looking shotguns. I don't need another semi-auto shotgun, but at that price I'm tempted to get one of the 20 gauge ones just for the hell of it.

There are lots of cheap shotguns out there these days.  Are there reviews that give you some idea if it works reliably?

That is a pretty inexpensive shot gun.  I would just want some assurance is works most of the time.

I have a Stevens pump 12 gauge that was in that price range.  There are Rem 870 copies out there.  The Benelli copies are more expensive.

Is that Turkish?

I would read a lot of reviews from consumers before I buy it.

Some Turkish shotguns are good, but most are poor, or so I have heard.

I have a Turkish made semi auto shotguns.  "Works most of the time" is a fair description of it.  Mine's a range toy and FU to the "just get a shotgun" crowd, but I think I would find it annoying if I was competing or missing birds because of it's function.  I would NEVER use it for self defense.

No idea how those Pointer's are though, just a data point on Turkish semis.

Same. Mine is under the Stoeger brand, but prob from the same factory as yours (likely Huglu, though not certain). Works for what little I use it. Shoots good, too.

Get one of those goofy chiappa triple barrels if you’re going to shorten it.

I once bought a used glock 17 and an Ithaca 37 police trade in for $500. So I figure I am $100 deep in that beautiful shotgun. Sold all my 870s.

Or a Diablo and you won't have to worry about the NFA.

I’ve got 7 shot ties collecting dust.  Did a lot of dove/quail hunting in Arizona but since I’ve moved up to Ohio the only one shot lately is a slug gun for deer.

Thinking about getting back I to goose hunting with my dads old 10 gauge though.

I'm pretty certain it is Turkish, but I have heard the opposite of what you have heard. There are a LOT of Turkish shotguns on the market -- have been for many years -- and for the most part they get decent to good reviews.

I have a SxS from the Huglu custom shop, through Mark DeHaan back when he was importing them to his specs. Simply an excellent upland gun and a pleasure to shoot. Very well made.

I'd rather pay $200 and be able to use shells.

IIRC, aren't the Howdahs a BP gun?
Many years ago, I was able to find a Stevens Mod. 311 SxS with double triggers.  Both barrels can be fired at the same time.  That's why it has a 3" OO Buck (15 pellets) on one barrel and a 3" #4 Buck (40 pellets) on the other barrel.  With 55 pellets in one "cloud" coming at you, there isn't much that can withstand that blow.
And, if you aim for the crotch or the neck, you might take out the femoral artery or the carotid artery/jugular vein.  Both are quick take-downs.

I picked up a really nice 311 from a guy on TFL about 10-12 years ago.

It's a 20 gauge, beautiful condition, from I think the late 1950s or early 1960s.

My favorite wobble and 5-stand gun.

Is it a double trigger as well?
I forgot to say about my 311 but it is a 12 gauge.

Yes. I think all 311s were double trigger, but I may be wrong about that.
