podcast recommendations?
« on: February 16, 2023, 04:39:12 PM »
Hi All. i have a long commute and would like some recommendations for stuff to listen to. I like not all topical stuff because too much of that drives me crazy. i listen to Unexplained for paranormal stuff, Micheal Bane, Concealed taco dudes, slamfire radio, and paracast for gun stuff. I'm almost done with smoking gun for true crime and hardcore history for history. Anybody have ones they like? Thanks

Hardcore History, No Dumb Questions, and Ironwood Rhino are pretty good.

If you like political podcasts, I recommend the Three Martini Lunch, and The Federalist.

https://youtube.com/@blogmablog4870 (Not a podcast but a “controversial” pastor from Idaho that’s imho excellent, most videos are 5-20 minutes)
https://youtube.com/@ZeihanonGeopolitics (Also not really a podcast, lots of great short videos).

If you're into that stuff/conspiratainment, check out Higherside Chats.  Wide ranging, interesting a good fraction of the time, good interviewer.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I've added no dumb questions, three martini lunch and higherside chats to my listening rotation.  Sumpnz is there a way to download just YouTube audio?  I started with no dumb questions, and I like listening to thoughtful people discuss things in a reasonable way. Thats also why I like this forum even though I don't post much. Thanks again. Pete

I’ve not tried to download audio.  I’m sure there’s a way, I just don’t know how easy/convenient that would be.

Drachinifel has some really good naval military history videos.  For the most part, you can just listen to them.

Randall Carlson has some interesting content.

The History Guy does regular videos on interesting events.  More pictures and such, but you can still just listen.

Dan Vasc does decent heavy metal covers of a lot of good songs.  Musical change of pace.

There are some that will upload their youtube audio to Spotify or other podcast sites.  Just do a search or see if that channel has a website with links.

Self Defense Gun Stories might get dry after a while, but they do 30 minute podcasts.  Usually 3 to 4 self defense incidents from the news discussed with a firearms trainer.  You can download from the site, but I believe they are on Apple podcasts and other locations.

I feel obliged to put a plug in for the History of Rome podcast if you haven't already listened to it.  It went to 192 episodes I believe.  Pretty good general history of Rome from beginning to end.

The first link is the website, but I don't know if the mp3 files are there anymore.  I found it on the archive link as well as Apple podcasts and Spotify.

Jack Carr is doing a podcast called Danger Close.  Lots of good interviews.  I'm enjoying them.
