Roofs and Raccoons

Didn't happen to me, but I stumbled upon this on the webz, and apparently this was done by a raccoon. I had no idea this was a thing:

Yeah, never heard of them actually tearing through a roof like that.

Yeah, squirrels, too.

Either critter will probably get sick / die from indicidental insulation (fiberglass?  asbestos?) ingestion.

Had something that seemed heavier than a squirrel running around in the attic (I'm on the second floor) a couple of years ago, but that stopped.  Don't know what (if anything) the MGMNT did, but haven't heard it for a while.  I was also concerned about vulnerability of my place due to a hatch going to the attic, but that paranoia evaporated.

There are many places where tree branches are close enough to the building to allow critters to get to it.

Only things that gets on my roof that I'm aware of besides some birds are some of the cats. Romana in particular likes getting up there usually chilling out on top of the chimney.

Squirrels generally won't go through shingles.

They will, but they generally prefer to try to get through rotted fascia or soffit boards.

If, however, you have wood shakes on your roof, instead of asphalt shingles, that's another story.
