Two teen-age girls attack a third ... over McDonald's sweet-and-sour sauce. The girl who was initially the victim then stabs (and kills) one of her attackers, who subsequently died. Even if someone ever said (as unlikely as it is) that Mickey D's sweet-and-sour sauce is "to die for," I'm sure it would have been said figuratively, not literally.

It strikes me that in many (most? all?) of our inner cities, the youth population is best described as "feral."

Not really clear in the article, did she stab them while they were attacking her or did she pull out the knife and go after them after they stopped?  Sounded like they were leaving, but it was not clear if any time had passed or not.  I might be inclined to call it self defense, but it probably wouldn't pass a strict legal test.

Valid point. If the assault was still going on, I'd call it self defense. Depending on the severity of the original 2 on 1 attack, I might even cut the stabber some slack if the attack was over by the end of the stabbing. But if it was a minor scuffle with no injuries, chasing down and stabbing a perp seems very ill-advised.

And . . . an assault over McDonald's sweet and sour sauce? Really?

I've only seen that one article. As I read it, the initial attack had ended and the two assailants were leaving when the original victim stabbed one of the attackers. So the stabbing was  a counterattack, not strictly self-defense.

Whether her attorney will be able to convince a jury that she was still in fear of death or serious injury and that she thought she was acting to prevent further injury to herself will be anyone's guess.

This story reminds me of the 70-something movie with Michael York and Jenny Agutter, "Logan's Run".  Remember the "feral kids" in that one scene of the movie where they are thinking of cutting York up?

"Feral Youth" was predicted back in the '60s when I was still in grade school. My folks told me they had a guest speaker at a PTA meeting who told the assembled parents the erosion of things like moral compass was already causing problems in society, and with each generation the children of troublemakers were likely to become worse than their troublesome parents.

It would seem that his predictions were correct.

Without addressing the incident directly, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced Thursday that the juvenile pilot program would target seven focus areas selected by the Metropolitan Police Department that cover neighborhoods "that have experienced a substantial increase in the number of young people involved in criminal conduct such as robberies or carjackings."

Yet, hours after the pilot program took effect Friday, two teens were killed, and a third remained hospitalized in critical condition after shots rang out in the 1300 block of 7th Street just before midnight. The two deceased were identified as 19-year-old Mikeya Ferguson and 18-year-old Cle’shai Perry, FOX 5 DC reported, while a 16-year-old girl is fighting for her life.

The curfew prohibits minors under 17 from being in any public place or on the premises of any establishment Sunday through Thursday from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 12:01 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. Enforcement, which began Friday, September 1, involves officers bringing minors found violating the curfew to Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services "achievement centers" until they can be reconnected in the morning with a parent or guardian.

If they're not obeying the law on murder what makes you think they'll obey a curfew?
And lets not talk about why inner city youth are killing each other over petty things.
