I'm expecting an outage.
« on: September 07, 2023, 01:05:08 PM »
Cell phone is out in many areas around Denver which includes my little area of Golden-Applewood.

Dayam.  My regular hard-wired phone was out for a week and they said it was a circuit board at "central."  This is the second time in two (?) years a "circuit board in Central" needed replacing.

"Yeah, you need a new Johnson Rod," as George Costanza of Seinfeld said.

And any electrical problems are due to a "short."

I was getting tempted to drop C     y L  k and go full-bore wireless phone and internet with AARP's system or maybe with Comcast, but now I wonder if I should bother if a downage occurred while I was considering that option.

So looking around online at area outages, I'm thinking maybe I might be off line here if the internet goes down.   Hold down the applause, it hasn't happened yet.

One admonition about going wireless - many 911 call centers aren't equipped to determine your location quickly and easily.

Looking back, I think I mis-typed "outrage" in the subject line, then corrected it later.  You guys may have read V.1.1

Still messed up as of about 2-3 hours ago.  Haven't checked since then, but I did get a message on the phone screen that mobile service was unavailable.

Figured I'd wait till tomorrow to check again.

I'm well aware of the problem of locating me, especially since everything goes to my POB in the next town.  Also, with some emergencies with other residents. it took quite a while  for management to show up with their keys.

I'll work on that.  I was thinking of providing a lockbox combo along with my residence address to the 911 emergency folks.  You'd think they'd have some kind of standardized plan to deal with "other-than-cul-de-sac-living" people.

About a year ago the EMT's were pounding on the door of the guy down the hall (actually the balcony) and they were looking for a key under the doormat.  I took a wild assed guess and told them to look on top of the "hall" light by his door.  To my own surprise, there was a key there, and they could enter and gurneyed the guy away.  Don't know the result except he showed up limping a week later.

No, I don't keep a house key there.  I taped a nice flat extra old-time car key up there, though.  Can't hardly feel or see it there.  And it only cost about eight bucks.
