Legal (or political) issues aside, I've never understood how somebody could believe that a human being doesn't have the right to defend him or herself, even with potentially deadly force. Did the DA really expect him to just fight a man who was bigger, younger, and in better shape than he was? I guess that's why NY didn't (well, still doesn't) like the idea of concealed carry for law abiding citizens. I just don't understand why a bleeding and bruised old man is preferable to a dead thug. More to my point, I don't understand how others would think that.
Years and years (since the 'twenties') of rigorous brainwashing. Speaking from my early years there, compared to my years here out west, New Yorkers are so indoctrinated by the PTB ("powers that be") that they can not recognize their own brainlocks:
"Guns is bad," and "Only cops and criminals have guns."
Unfortunaely, this kind of attitude spreads oncologically because of the faux "safety" it offers.
Even kittens carry concealed weapons, but this biological lesson completely escapes them.
