Computer Glasses
« on: October 26, 2023, 07:17:13 PM »
I finally got around to getting computer glasses, and boy, why didn't I do this sooner?

Though technically I did. Last year I asked the optometrist and he talked me into progressives for far-med-near. They work fine for far (though I rarely wear glasses for far vision) and they worked just ok for near (I can't see *expletive deleted*it up close anymore without reading glasses). The computer distances though, absolutely sucked. The problem was that the part of the lenses ground for that was so narrow that I was giving myself more eyestrain by bobbing my head around to try and find that "just right" part of the lenses.

This year, I made him give me computer/reading bifocals. I picked them up yesterday, and they are the bomb. The upper 2/3rds are set for about 24", and then the lower bifocals of course, are set for reading distances. No bobbing my head around. I see the screen perfectly, and slightly lowering my eyes, I also see the keyboard in sharp focus through the readers. No eyestrain, and easy to switch from one distance to the other. Now I'm happy.  =)

I've had computer/reading bifocals for the past couple of years. They're great.

But, I'm really thinking that it's time that I get those AND my regular vision glasses and reading bifocals. I'm getting tired of having to take my regular glasses off to see my phone.

Here's mine. Notice the light Yellow Tint. My eye Dr recommended it.

I might not last very long or be very effective but I'll be a real pain in the ass for a minute!

Hmmm, never heard of them, might look into them (no pun.)  I got bifocals a couple of months ago and don't wear them.

Problem is my laptop is on the coffee table 41" away, and my keyboard is on an extension on my lap.  About 1.5-1.75 diopters just barely works for both distances.  I am frequently using control minus and control plus to make long reads comfortable.

Next eye examination cycle (one per year per Med Ins) I might ask about that.  It must be a common problem with common solutions developed.

But, as K Frame will confirm, the instruments on the Subaru (mine's a '97) are very carefully designed to be invisible under any and all lighting conditions, and no corrections are suitable.  I just have to "keep up with traffic."

 ??? ??? ??? ???

The only problem I have ever had seeing the instruments on the dashboard of any of my 4 Subarus is due to where I position my steering wheel. It partially blocks the upper part of the speedo and tac.

Other than that, I've never had any problem reading the cluster.
