Sirens, Fire truck horns, New year's Eve...
« on: December 31, 2023, 07:03:39 PM »
The sun is setting on 2023, it's 5:00PM, and all of a sudden a huge number of sirens and firetruck horns can be heard from I-70 near here.

The implications seem obvious.  Sounds like somebody messed up.

I hope no innocents got hurt.

As I'm typing this, Google Maps Traffic shows I-70 eastbound exit to 470 closed

For about 45 minutes (starting about 8 p.m.), there have been a bunch of fireworks set off in my neighborhood.  Naturally, it is the "good stuff" that isn't allowed in IL-ANNOY.

When I lived in IL-ANNOY (In a city then called "Daleyville on the Lake") fireworks weren't allowed - but on the 4th of July, my neighborhood sounded like battle scenes from a WWII movie thanks to the expenditure of HUGE amounts of "good stuff" fireworks. On New Years eve, there wasn't a lot of fireworks, but there WAS some celebratory gunfire from all points of the compass. Somehow, I never heard of someone getting hit when the bullets came down.

That's a bit east of here, here being Applewood and Golden area where I-70 comes out on the plains.  The fuss might not actually be on I-70, but that's where I hear the most traffic noises from.  New Year's Eve, screech, crunch, sirens = 4.  As in 2 + 2 = 4.

I should clarify...

The intersection of west 470 and I-70, the one right as I-70 begins climbing into the mountains in earnest. Closure was on the 470 exit from I-70 eastbound lane, the curlique that kicks you onto 470 northbound. Still showing closed as of now (16 hrs later).
