Sikhs cannot join the US military anymore without violating their religious code. Specifically, wearing a turban and grooming restrictions. Previous to 1986, religious exceptions on grooming were allowed and Sikhs were distinctly known for their courage in combat. Any US soldier that served with British forces during WWI or WWII can attest to the quality of Sikh soldiers. 2.5 million total volunteered by the end of WWII...
That statement brought to mind a recollection that the British Sikh regiments were considered outstanding in combat.
