"Prancing Pony" is an in-crowd thing, a affectionate pet name by afficianados.

Wow, I am very nearly a Sikh and didn't even know it  shocked

We need to start an American version of this religion.  Our symbol could be the Colt Prancing Pony (to put on gravestones of course) and we could meet for services at the range on Sunday mornings Wink

Can Lieutenant General Mikhail Timofeyevich Kalashnikov be a patron saint?  If so, I'm in.

Now THIS is a religion that I could agree with.

Yes.  Even in school.  ACLU helped out a case in California that allowed HS students to carry a kirpan.

Sikhs cannot join the US military anymore without violating their religious code.  Specifically, wearing a turban and grooming restrictions.  Previous to 1986, religious exceptions on grooming were allowed and Sikhs were distinctly known for their courage in combat.  Any US soldier that served with British forces during WWI or WWII can attest to the quality of Sikh soldiers.  2.5 million total volunteered by the end of WWII.

You bet! Smiley  Along with John Moses Browning, and John Mahlon Marlin, et al ....

And all adherents to the faith are automatically "ministers" and as such qualify for all the associated tax priviledges.

Pilgrimages to places like the Cody Firearms Museum are encouraged.

You get a special place in Valhalla for converting anti-gun folks to the faith.

The "Colt Cult" ...? Wink

That statement brought to mind a recollection that the British Sikh regiments were considered outstanding in combat.

I found this cool photo on the wikipedia entry

French postcard depicting the arrival of 15th Sikh Regiment in France during World War I. The post card reads, "Gentlemen of India marching to chasten German hooligans"

I understand the need for conformity in the military, but I think the post 1986 restrictions are wrong.

Doesn't apply here though. Sweden has crarppy laws about carrying knifes. Sikhs can join the military though, as long as their beard and turban isn't going to cause problems (getting stuck in machinery etc). Hell, they can be cops too. As long as the turban is dark blue...

I guess I should have known that you were Scandinavian by your moniker laugh

One of my favorite authors (Bernard Cornwell), in who's work "Vikings" feature prominently, says that "Viking" in the middle ages was more of a job description than an ethnicity.
