...and other vehicle care.

You think Firearm Forums have "product wars". You ain't seen nothing until you see a Car Forum and what all goes on with this stuff.

I grew up up with whatever  soap, bucket, garden hose and T shirt to wash a car. Turtle Wax was handy. No vinyl protectorant was used because we had metal dashes and such. Tires, now how long do you think a gravel/ dirt road road is gonna let a whitewall stay clean? Turtle waxed hubcaps held up pretty good.

Seems I'm going to hell for this barbaric practice according to some  'Net Forums...

Out of curiousity sake we looked at some sites after the following experience...

So I assisted a lady friend with cleaning up her car.  " Yeah I ran by NAPA and grabbed the first combo dealie they had".  Seems she will be joining me in wherever heathens like us are supposed to go.

Mother's, she grabbed the Mother's car wash, liquid wax, detail stuff one uses b/t hand waxing. Came with a bucket, sponges, chamois ( real one, not the fake one) RainX window cleaner, and Window treatment, and some impregated cloths to due the vinyl.

Okay, we do her car, looks great, and the vinyl cloths do not get all over the windows.  "Lets do your truck" .

My truck is blue again...kinda miss the gray and brown, but I do recall when I bought this truck new it was blue.

Like me she has never put Armor- All on tires, I think it breaks down the compounds, she agrees it also just gets stuff to stick and look tacky.

I have the blackout package.  I mean folks have pulled up at dark and asked " where is your truck" - I point "dang...almost walked into it".

Now I have been using Black shoe polish on my blackout pkg - seems to last longer than the Meguire's cloths with vinyl stuff on them...not shiny , I really don't want shiny, negates the blackout package. I mean even tho the speed limit on I40 b/t Nashville and Knoxvill is 95 mph...shiney is not advisable....attracts more bugs...*ahem*

Anywho we go to NAPA to get pair of cheap channel locks for  use on the grill afterwards...

We hear the most heated discussion about Car wax, car washing, car care stuff...microns of this this, UV ray that...Clay Bars [ what the hell is a clay bar for we ask ourselves...]

"Daddy has a  B-day coming up - I'll get another Combo dealie like we used".

Glock vs 1911 ain't got nothing on what ensued...we were fussed, cussed , and "informed". She grabbed it anyway.

"Who's truck is that?"
"Mine"

"Are those steel wheels?"
"Yep, factory steel black mags"
"Dude [ is dude good or bad?] you are not supposed to run Steel mags, too heavy, more gas waste, you need to drop supension and go Aluminum"

" I use a truck to hunt , fish and create havoc".  [Art's Grammaw does not allow me give their definition of "havoc", I caught enough hell for fishing and hunting..]

Lady Friend is at the counter, sales clerk is making a comment about a quart of ATF with a bad cap. Lady friend says, "I'll take it"

"You can have it, I cannot sell it, I can write it off"
"Okay , cool, thanks!"

"What kind of car you have btw? "
"Camry"
"It won't work in the Camry..."
"Not gonna use for the Camry"
"Oh..okay, didn't want you messing something up"

The more learned youths step up, start telling her what she NEEDS to do to her car.

She informs them the Camry has been great for the last 197K miles, why fix what ain't broke.

"197k miles??"

"Yep"  [ heads are about to explode]

" So what you gonna use "that" ATF for?

"My 1100 and other stuff"

"1100...is that a VW?"
"Saab?"
"Audi?"

So as we head out the door, all paid up with our goodies, she turns, does that "head nod and look" ladies do...

"Shotgun!"

"Too bad they didn't come out to the parking lot"  she said " Be a hoot to chase him around once or twice just for fun 'fore we leave".

"He he...nothing says I can't leave some scratch and wind this puppy out as we do..."

"Hit it"

I once tried to suggest that there probably wasn't much of a difference between the Pennzoil brand grease, and the Mobil brand grease, and was looked at like I just suggested using a .45 LC round in a .45 ACP gun.
I still say 'Give Detroit to Canada'

I  started the TBRUS Club about a year ago at College  umm..Tacky R us , the "B" can be for certain types of boys or girls as applicable...

Had a fella with a High Dollar race gun, " boy that was great oil I borrowed from you last time I saw you...got anymore?" I asked him to remind me if it was red or brownish...[needed to know whether to refill his dispenser with Havoline Syn 10W-30 motor oil or the Havoline Dexron III ATF.]  " Brownish"  he replied...I refilled from a Zippo Tin" Here ya go" Happy as a Lark...

---

Got into an "discussion" about hand lotion during the winter time, like many I get dry skin. So Mike Irwin shared once how Olive Oil worked, and sure enough it does GREAT! [ Thanks Mike].

I brought the person a little bit in a no name container..." that stuff is great..." One of these days I am going to shut up, and not tell folks what I am using. I could make a fortune re-packaging stuff.

---

Washing and waxing cars.   Well some cheerleaders  were wanting to raise money for a field trip, I knew some of the parents.  Some parents were naturally helping and they shared a tip. Besides letting the gals wear bikinis, short shorts and all.

If a person shows up in high dollar ride and if asked what car wash soap - reply with whatever the current high dollar stuff is. They  will cell phone others and they too will come and get a car wash. Tip real well too.

"Hey we just had some Turtle Wax Zip Wash in the Garage...we let the kids use it..."

Folks get too wrapped around the axle.

The cheerleaders  were sharp too; someone ask them what they were using..." what do you use?" they asked. Whatever the person said they replied " oh yeah that stuff is AWESOME!!"   Inflate ego - bigger tip. Smiley

Good stories as usual...

Oh, and clay bars are fantastic at removing bug guts.  Just don't go into Auto Zone to ask the pimply-faced teenager behind the counter where it is 'cause he's likely to explode trying to understand.

A story about a young fella with our shooting club--he has a Springfield stainless something-or-other that I assume ran just fine.  Well, I guess he had a bunch of money just burning a hole in his pocket and needed to add every doo-dad to it with a local 'smith.  Waits and waits for the gun to be done.

Is so excited when it's finished he posts a bunch of pics up on our club forum.  I look at the pics and comment that it's a nice looking gun but this and that might need some attention.  I figure you spend a couple thousand on a custom gun it better be perfect, right?

Young fella shows up at the match same night and can't get more than 4 or 5 rounds to go through it without locking up.  Does this all night.  He is convinced his thumb is hitting the slide.  I said that's possible but remember what I posted online about your extractor?  Yep, he says.  I say that is likely your issue.  Have the 'smith fix it from clocking.

He is finally able to get to 'smith and also to post back on the forum and chews me out for denegrating his gun, etc.  Look, I didn't do it with bad intention but I get really tired of seeing people piss away hard earned money to these "'smiths" for the lastest and greatest and then not have the desired result.  (This particualr 'smith is a hell of a guy and I have no doubt he'll make it right)

See, people get too wrapped around the axle Wink
