Opened a Christmas gift from Mom and it was a 1959 edition of the Culinary Institute of America cookbook!
Mom has one that Grandma gave her when Mom and Dad got married. It's the BEST cookbook I've ever seen. VERY comprehensive.
I've been wanting one for some years, and they're very hard to find.
It's interesting to see, though, how emphasis during that time had a distinct focus on canned items, although this cookbook by no means is a "open a can and dump it in a pot" cookbook.
This cookbook balances preprocessed items with canned. It also has excellent sections of definitions on different foods, and has a very good section on canning your own food.
Last Christmas it was a 1908 copy of the American Standard and Sanitary Company's boiler, furnace, and radiators handbook.
I LOVE having a Mom who's in the rare book trade!
