You can usually end up with the best price on Priceline.  Just understand that you are bidding on a price and you never know if it's going to be accepted until the very end.  If you do have bid accepted, your card is charged right then and there.

Varies by carrier.  Check their web site for official policy.

Use http://www.kayak.com.  They don't actually sell tickets, they just punch in your information to lots of places that do, and show you who has the lowest price.

Also, if you find a price on Orbitz (or any of those companies) that is all with one carrier, you can often punch that same flight into the carriers website and save a few more dollars.

I use Kayak as well and Roger that on checking the airline website. I saved some people a couple hundred on some short notice tickets (traveling in 4 days and only staying 4 days) by getting them on the airline's site.

I got shatnered on, and I'm gonna stick with the gnome for a while... They put me in a motel on the second floor (and I was travelling with someone who'd recently had knee surgery), and the place did nada about rowdy college kids...

www.orbitz.com
www.travelocity.com
www.sidestep.com

After you check the flights through those sites, check directly through specific carrier websites.  You may save a few bucks, you may not.

FYI, I booked something like 12k worth of travel last year.

About Priceline:  If you put in a bid, you don't get to select your flight or seats.  You may end-up going on a midnight flight that connects through St. Louis.  Priceline does have the standard option of picking a flight based on a published fare.

On the lap ape, the FAA says that children under 2 years old may be considered lap children; they don't need a ticket.  Above 2 y.o. needs a ticket.  No children under 15 in the emergency exit row, including lap children (infants).  That may affect your plans.

i did searches through all the sites then got it for 6 bucks less by going to northwests web site
priceline could go 18 bucks cheaper but not willing to roll dice on flight times for less than 20 a ticket.not with apes

I have had the best luck with hotwire. keeping in mind that 90 percent of my tickets were for international flights either to russia or germany. but even when I searched for U.S. flights they always seemed to be more reasonable on hotwire. the prices change pretty much daily and sometimes you can get really good deals on clearance fares. (as that the right fare? or fair?)SmileySmiley
