Ok, now THIS is priceless...

I love the attempts of her and her friends to BS her way out of it more than the story...

DRIGGS, Idaho (AP) -- Dawn Wells, who played Mary Ann on "Gilligan's Island," is serving six months' unsupervised probation after allegedly being caught with marijuana in her car.

Dawn Wells played Mary Ann on "Gilligan's Island."

She was sentenced February 29 to five days in jail, fined $410.50 and placed on probation after pleading guilty to one count of reckless driving.

Under a plea agreement, three misdemeanor counts -- driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance -- were dropped.

On October 18, Teton County sheriff's Deputy Joseph Gutierrez arrested Wells as she was driving home from a surprise birthday party that was held for her. According to the sheriff's office report, Gutierrez pulled Wells over after noticing her swerve and repeatedly speed up and slow down. When Gutierrez asked about a marijuana smell, Wells said she'd just given a ride to three hitchhikers and had dropped them off when they began smoking something. Gutierrez found half-smoked joints and two small cases used to store marijuana.

The 69-year-old Wells, founder of the Idaho Film and Television Institute and organizer of the region's annual family movie festival called the Spud Fest, then failed a sobriety test.

Wells' lawyer, Ron Swafford, said that a friend of Wells testified he'd left a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle after using it that day, and that Wells was unaware of it. Swafford also said several witnesses were prepared to testify that Wells had very little to drink at the party and was not intoxicated when she left. He said she was swerving on the road because she was trying to find the heater controls in her new car.

Ahhh...Mary Ann.  I always wondered why Gilligan was so enamored with her coconut cream pies.   grin  IRC, she was instrumental in getting Bob Denver it a spot of trouble when she mailed him some dried up flowers of C. sativa near the end of his life.

Oh absolutely.  Hooray war on drugs!

Has nothing to do with drugs, sorry. I'm a libertarian and oppose the War on Drugs, and I think DUI of any mind-altering substance (except possibly ones that BOOST your driving performance) should be illegal.

Would it have been better if she'd plowed into a minivan full of kids?

Driving under the influence of any mind-altering substance is something that deserves severe punishment.

I've no love of those who drive while impaired or distracted, but if they had Ms. Wells dead to rights on the DUI, why drop the charge?  I rather suspect that NO quantitative testing was done to measure Ms. Wells level of impairment, so rather than have the uncovered in a court of law, the charges were dropped.

Now, if she's gotta do five days, I wonder if we could send her a care package... I wonder what it'd cost to mail a coconut to Driggs, Idaho... And I wonder what the police department would do if they received a few thousand...

Guys, this is the internet. If we each push this on a dozen different weird forums, and get other folks to do the same, think of the mayhem we could cause the Driggs, Idaho PD...

They plea-bargained away the worst counts, that's why.

Kinda throws a new twist on the old Ginger vs. Mary-Ann question, doesn't it?

Who woulda thunk that Mary Ann was the party girl?

Maybe Ginger was the one to take home and meet the folks!   grin
