Ebay Sellers/Users
« on: March 07, 2008, 08:13:29 AM »
So I bought an item a week and a half ago with Buy it Now and used Paypal so my end was handled immediately.  I just got this email today.  It is the first I have heard from this seller and the item hasn't shown up yet.  I am a little torked by this and have fashioned a response and would like some feedback from some regular ebay sellers.  I buy but haven't sold anything for quite some time so don't know about the new automated offerings.  Thanks in advance!

Email received from Seller or on behalf of seller from automated?Huh??

Dear polishrifleman,

Thank you for purchasing NEW ATOMIC RACE C;614 DOWNHILL SKI BINDING MODEL
C614.  Please leave feedback for me on eBay and I'll do the same for you.
Take this opportunity now and help build a better eBay community.

My proposed response:

I find it odd, that I have not heard from you.  I have not received the item.  I paid immediately and the first email correspondence I get is this.  In my Paypal message to you I stated that I would leave feedback once the item was received and inspected and will do just that according to how the transaction goes down.  Ebay is not a tit for tat marketplace in my opinion.  I know we all want a good rating so understand the want for feedback.  My obligation was to pay in a timely manner which I did.  If you choose to leave feedback accordingly that is your choice.  I personally always leave feedback as it is a great tool for us who primarily buy to get a feel for the seller.

If this is an automated response sent by your selling program, or ebay directly I would suggest that you extend the time between the sale of the item and this message going out, or be more proactive in communicating what's happening with the buyer's paid for item.  If you would please provide me with shipping details it would be appreciated.  As you know the item was purchased with "Buy it Now" on the 28th of February.

This is why I stopped using ebay.

Since they bought PayPal, dispute resolution has been a joke.

Actually it's become a lot more straighforward (if a little roundabout and long-winded).

If the Buyer doesn't get an item they can file a dispute on eBay.  The Seller has a week to respond.  If there is no response, and the Buyer used PayPal to pay, the amount is automatically credited to the Buyer via PayPal and the Seller receives a strike on their account.

I had two deadbeat bidders on some recent auctions.  I was grousing about the dispute resolution, too.  It turned out to be fairly easy, just not instant.

PolishRifleman, often the Seller's actual e-mail address will be on the purchase confirmation.  Maybe even a personal or business name.  If it was a BuyItNow auction you might be able to decipher a store or business name from something in the auction.  Tried tracking down any of that?

So this guy has 137 positive feedbacks and 0 negatives primarily as a Seller.

This hasn't gotten into a dispute yet.  I think what has happened is I went to email him to ask him about the wherabouts and found the feedback email in my inbox. The email from him I find untimely and tacky therefore my response.  I don't want to create a dispute where I don't get my stuff and have to go through the process but also want to send the seller a message.

Maybe the guy just dropped the ball on this one.  I'd send him a reply and see what happens.

I've seen people with 100 positive feedbacks all from "no longer exists" accounts in China.

When I buy stuff, I always pay as soon as the auction is over, then send an email confirming that I have paid, and asking them to let me know via email, and I give the email address again, that thee product has shipped.

I always leave feedback upon receipt.

I sent the email response and will see where this goes.

From the feedback on this thread I have learned that Ebay and Paypal are Satanic and based in China.  Although I disagree with a lot of their policies and politics I have had a good run on ebay and other web based consumer sites and just for the fact it keeps me out of the shopping mall I am grateful.

I don't have a problem with eBay apart from their no-gun idiocy.

It's just that the combined company is a conflict of interest in that it makes it far easier for slimes around the planet to abuse the system, and is more worried about getting its listing fees than resolving disputes.

I used to use BidPay when that existed, since that was Western Union. You do not play games with Western Union. They are very old, very big, and will hit you like the fist of an angry god if you play funny defrauding games. PayPal won't.

I've received seller responses very similar to the one Polishrifleman posted.  It's been my experience that most sellers do not give any notice of shipping after you send your payment.

I have almost always paid immediately with paypal and only a few times did the seller respond with something like, "Thanks for the super fast payment, I'm shipping your item now."  They just ship it.  Most of the time, it's fast enough.  One guy took weeks and I had to e-mail him a few times to prompt him.  He was responsive to my e-mails and apologetic.  I seriously think he was just stoned and moving at different pace than the rest of the world.  He packed the stuff well and it was actually better than described, so I left him a positive feedback with a comment on slow shipping.

Another guy I bought a knife from sent me the wrong one.  I let him know as soon as I got it so we could exchange them.  He told me to keep it, send him a few bucks for shipping and he'd send me the other one.  It's hard to beat sellers like that.

I must be the Seller From Heaven, then.  For my recent land auctions I notify the Buyer when I get payment, when I send the deed for filing, when I get it back, and when it goes in the mail for final shipment.  Just mailed one today to Kingman AZ.
