Posting from new Firefox.
« on: March 24, 2008, 05:12:13 AM »
Firefox is at version 3 beta 4.  It seems nice so far but I've barely settled in.  Spoda be REAL fast.  Correcting some of the memory issues.

You can use this to install to a separate folder and not mess up your original install.  Also looks like you can put it in a flash drive and carry it to and fro.  Nice.

I'll wait till they come out with the solid version. I don't do beta testing.

I love firefox, though.

You've used Windows, haven't you?  You've been a beta tester, then.

I think the best comment regarding betas was exclaimed bitterly by an IT person I overheard.

So far I've heard nothing but positives about it's stability.  And the portable folder should be a no-risk trial.

You should try Apples Safari Browser.  I love it.

Firefox 3 Beta 4 is indeed pretty darn good.  When the stable version is out, I'll probably dump Safari on my Mac for Firefox.  Assuming they've gotten the memory issues under control.

They really need to fix the memory leak. That's been with it since it was Netscape.

It's supposedly either been fixed or tamed down quite a bit.

I'm still a little weary of breaking my current FF install.
I'll be switching back and forth between this and the portable beta for the next few days...see what happens to the other people.
So far it looks good.

I don't know. I wiped it clean with spybot before the transition and just did another, maybe a week later and came up with 31 "problems". I thought FF was supposed to cut that action way back? It was running funny but since the new wipe seems a bit better.

Even with Firefox, windows is still a breeding ground for nasty spyware.

I don't think that will work on my computer.

I hated my Mac G4.  I also hated the version of Safari on my x86 machines.

No spyware on any of my Windowz machines, and I've been running one or another version of Bill Gates' baby since Windows 3.0.

So what am I doing wrong, hmmm?   rolleyes

I've always been a firefox fanboy, but have noticed how much memory it uses, plus now mine has this bug where downloads don't start...I can only 'open', not 'save'.

Yesterday I was in Konqueror anyway doing something or other, and was like 'hey, maybe try surfing the web'. I was pretty surprised how much faster it was than firefox. Can I reinstall firefox without losing my bookmarks?
