Katie Couric expected to quit
« on: April 10, 2008, 01:42:32 PM »
Quote
After two years of record-low ratings, both CBS News executives and people close to Katie Couric say that the "CBS Evening News" anchor is likely to leave the network well before her contract expires in 2011 -- possibly soon after the presidential inauguration early next year.

Ms. Couric isn't even halfway through her five-year contract with CBS, which began in June 2006 and pays an annual salary of around $15 million. But CBS executives are under pressure to cut costs and improve ratings for the broadcast, which trails rival newscasts on ABC and NBC by wide margins.

Her departure would cap a difficult episode for CBS, which brought Ms. Couric to the network with considerable fanfare in a bid to catapult "Evening News" back into first place. Excluding several weeks of her tenure, Ms. Couric never bested the ratings of interim anchor Bob Schieffer, who was named to host the broadcast temporarily...

Who cares?  I never watch her anyway.  Chances are though, she'll earn more than you and I and the rest of APS put together.  laugh

There must be some sort of "escape clause" in the contract (ratings?) for the network to be able to fire someone who's making $15,000,000 a year.

If I were making that kind of money, it wouldn't really matter to me what my ratings were, or what they were saying about me in the boardroom . . . I could put up with a lot of that sort of thing for a couple more years for that much cash.

If you made Katie Couric money for as many years as she has, you wouldn't bother to put up with anything.  You would go wherever you thought you would be happiest, take a pay cut, and STILL make more money than all of APS put together.

One rumor has it that CNN and CBS are going to combine their news operations to reduce their costs, and Katie Couric is going to take over Larry King's slot doing softball interviews (his contact is up early next year). Thats what she was good at anyway, so it would make a lot of sense.

I never cared for strippers

It's like going to a five star restaurant, smelling the wonderful aromas, and being sent home hungry to an empty fridge.

What a shock.  She's nearly as sincere and believable as Hillary.
