Maybe a gun wouldn't have done him a LOT of good given his age and the amount of assailants - but you know, it'd be fair if two or three of them had gone to Valhalla as his personal escort.

Sure a gun would've done some good.  After the first or second attacker was shot, the rest would flee.

From the story it sounds like all involved were gangbangers, including the victim.  Are you sure about the guns?

Let me ask my fellow APSers and gunnies a question.  What would you have done if it was you witnessing the beat down?  Would you do as others did and call 911 or would you defend your fellow mankind? 

Called 911.  I'd get involved if he was friend or family, but not for a total stranger. The stakes are too high and I have my own family to worry with.  He might be just as bad as the other 15, just caught without his "posse".

They will get grabbed. Then some public defender will stand up in court to explain how the gangbangers are just poor misunderstood underprivileged youths who deserve a second chance. They will go to jail for a bit, learn some new tricks, then get released to repeat the process and indoctrinate the next generation of gangbangers, apart from fathering a few more illegitimate kids to single mothers, to follow in daddy's footsteps. Iterate.
