Can someone tell me....
« on: August 26, 2005, 04:26:35 AM »
How am I able to put a photo in my scanner and then be able to paste it onto APS.  My printer instructions tells me all about e mail, faxing and saving to my hard drive.
I'm stymied from there.  I have some good pics for the summer pic thread, but am stumped.  (not a hard thing to do, by the way, stumping moi.)

you need a web accessible area you can upload it to.

Then in your mesage put this:

web address is something like members.isp.net/grampster/aps-pic.jpg but that has to be set up - usually an ISP provides at least 10MB (some much more) of web space but you need to set it up. Once you've got your web space set up upload your pic to it. The above will display inline when people read the forum message.

make sure your pics are JPG. Take a pic and with your pic software even if it's already a JPG save it and set the save algorithm to 50% or less but greater than 20%. This makes the file size way lower and quicker for people to DL when reading the forum. Surprisingly the loss of resolution is hardly noticable for screen sized pics all the way down to 20% in my opinion but then some folks undoubtedly have a good enough eye to notice the difference.

hope that helps...

A somewhat easier thing to do is go to www.photobucket.com and sign up for a free account.  Log on and upload a picture (very intuitive--if not PM me).  Once uploaded, you'll see 3 HTML-type codes listed below the picture.  Copy the line that is wrapped in [IMG] tags and paste that line into your post while you posting/editing it.  Once you save/submit the post, it'll 'hotlink' to your image at www.photobucket.com .
