Back on March 05, I said:

I paid $3.67/gallon for 87 octane yesterday. It'll be four bucks very soon.

To which Manedwolf replied:

It'll only be $4 in places like California with their insane treehugger laws.

I countered:

$5 to your favorite charity/political party says you're wrong. Or $5 from you to the environmental organization of my choice if gas isn't at a national average of $4 or more by summer.

Today, it's over $4 in Chicago and Long Island and the national average is $3.79.  But of course, the price will drop with Memorial Day and summer vacation approaching................ rolleyes

Not quite yet.  The national average isn't at $4 yet.

In the meantime, I'm looking for that other thread where y'all jumped my case when I said "$100 a barrel oil" and it was really only at $99.97 or something.  And what is it today?

Ok, Paddy McRiley, how much is gas in Kalifornistan right now?

(Hint, I have family in Orange County, and they've already told me over the weekend...)

Haven't been out today yet (it changes every day), but last time I looked it was +- $4.03 here.  Be patient; $4 is not far off for everyone else.  And it won't stop there, either.

You got that right, regardless of arguements over anything else.

Some day it will be $5.  After that it will be $10.  And so on... and so forth...

Oh, and eggs will be $10 a dozen.  It's called inflation.  It happens.  As long as it's reasonable, a little inflation is a healthy thing.  The economy adjusts around it.

Gas hits national average of $4 for first time  And it's not yet summer.

Oh, and the price of oil has doubled in a year and risen 44 percent since January.  Same as the rate of 'inflation', right?

As long as salaries keep pace, which they currently aren't.

The problem is that the level of position that paid $50-60K in 2000, still pays $50-60K.

I haven't really been bothered much by the shifting dollar vs. the world market. I bought a lot of silver back when it was $6/oz. I started selling it off here and there when it hit $14/oz.  smiley

For what it's worth, I just bought eggs at $1/dozen, milk at $2.75/gal, and gas at $3.80/gal.

With no end in sight.

Most of the middle class should be looking for one of a couple of options; find a quick way into the upper, upper class - or becoming as aself sufficient as possible. Either one, or be prepared to join the lower classes and standard of living.

There is no "quick" way into the upper class unless you win the lottery or get a large inheritance. Otherwise, it's just a lot of good longterm investment with some luck involved, or a lot of hard work with some luck involved. Or being successful in a scam (dotcom era cash-and-crash companies included), which I do not count.

Right. I am waiting for those in the middle class who - for one reason or another - do not see what is coming just over the horizon for them to suddenly realise they have been had by those whom they have ferociously defended and kept in the wrestling ring all these years. That it was all a big show to keep them occupied while in plain sight they were fleeced and sold out. Not going to be a pretty sight.
