Woah, now.  I was talking about assault rifle calibers.  Using a real rifle cartridge in an AK is cheating.   smiley

.308 was initially developed as an 'intermediate' cartridge.

If I am correctly informed, the .308 is nearly equal to the .30-06, in terms of ballistics and downrange performance.  So I'm not sure what is "intermediate" about it, compared to other military rifle rounds.

It was, however, smaller than previous main rifle cartidges.

.308 is not an intermediate cartridge.  Not in the sense that .223 and 7.62x39 are, anyway.

I did not say it was one. I said it was part of the intent of te designers to make it one, as a cartridge smaller than ones deployed at the time. IT was a sort of compromise between something like the Soviet M43 cartridge and existing US cartridges.

The haul included two semiautomatic assault rifles of the type allegedly used by Perry, plus dozens of rounds of ammunition, a 12-gauge shotgun, a .357-caliber revolver and a 9mm handgun, along with a bulletproof vest.

I have single mags that can hold dozens of rounds.   Unless it's in the tens of thousands of rounds, it isn't impressive.   Look at Ammoman's warehouse for impressive.

The CETME is a cheap .308 that is fun to shoot. Smiley
