Too many AF troops were getting schmeared in motorcycle wrecks, that's how.

The story played out with alarming regularity.

Take your re-enlistment bonus, buy a 900cc crotch rocket, and get hosed off the pavement in a few days.

happened to a guy I know. Wasn't good for his career (or his looks).
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.

Just curious, are you going to ride up I-5 on a bike ?   shocked

I do it all the time.  My Scarabeo cruises all day at 75-80 without breaking a sweat, and the fairings really keep down the wind blast.  The previous owner told me that he had it up to 102 miles per hour on a couple of occasions.  It is rare, however, that I get much above 60, if that, on the Seattle-area freeways due to congestion.

Wow - it scares me enough in a car.
Freedom is a heavy load, a great and strange burden for the spirit to undertake. It is not easy. It is not a gift given, but a choice made, and the choice may be a hard one. The road goes upward toward the light; but the laden traveller may never reach the end of it.  - Ursula Le Guin

A really good source of info on riding better and staying alive is Dave Hough's book "Proficient Motorcycling".
Absolutely packed with good info, drawings, and photo's. He is a legend in the Motorcycle industry!
