Is this what happened to the British?
« on: November 30, 2008, 03:57:15 PM »
This is a BBC children's program from the 80's. Short clip.

I am at a loss for words. This has fulfilled my surreality quota for the month.

Wizbit was more of the more sane programmes from the BBC during that period.  Just see:

Bod (my personal favourite) :  http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Xn4VH7BBIg4
Rhoobarb and Custard (with the best intro music ever):  http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=L52idWDN9Nw

And those others ones...again. WHAT.

That one's kinda cool, actually. They just put on a new medieval series that's all sketchy look for backgrounds, with some girl and a dragon. Reminds me of that. "Jane and the Dragon", that's it.

The art style is actually pretty interesting in motion, it has a lot of detail.

Want surreal? This is the stuff I watched when I was young, and I still love it I might add. I present to you all: Ika i rutan (Ika on/in the screen) =D
Her background is that she was trained as a mime/clown, and then ended up making tv-shows for kids back in the late 80's. Awesome and hilarious stuff!

Its difficult to explain to one that didnt go through it.

Certainly, it seems that you all seem to have gone down the wholesome childhood / apple pie / sports route, wheras lots of British children during that time were exposed to psychadelic television, unbelievably amoral computer game experiences (Elite, Attack of the Mutant Camels), football violence (on the pitch and off it) and a succession of bizarre musical fads.  It was probably an attempt to rebuild the empire by creating a similar generation of rapacious hooligans intent on world domination.

In 1979, the cast and crew of Rainbow made a special exclusive sketch for the Thames TV staff Christmas tape, sometimes referred to as the "Twangers" episode. This show featured plenty of deliberate sexual innuendo (beginning with Zippy peeling a banana, saying "One skin, two skin, three skin, four..." before being interrupted), and never shown at the time (as it was never intended to be screened to the general public.)

As a kid, I used to watch a Saturday Morning British show called "The Goodies".  These were contemporaries, and actually friends of, the Monty Python Troupe.

"Bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round...

Well, there's always THIS from our side...

I have very dim memories of that one from when I was little, though I seem to recall it being a movie of some sort rather than a TV series...

It was a series that they made a movie out of. I watched it quite a bit myself. Probably explains a few things about me now.

Funny, it turns out the Krofts were Brits.  =D
