Gun accessory
« on: November 06, 2008, 09:34:57 PM »
Any of you guys ever hear of such a critter.

this is the question I was asked:

"you know the little plastic clip thingie you use to slide the (spring pin? don't know what it's called) spring down in a magazine so you can load it easier if you don't have the hand-strength? what are those called, andwhere can i find them on the web?"

She's looking for that to fit a Ruger Mk2 mag, anybody got link I could giver her?

Thanks , Bigjake

I seem to recall that one of these devices for the .22 pistol magazines was called a Thumbsaver.

Look under speedloaders at places like Midway USA...

I'm not entirely sure what she's describing but here's something that might interest her:  http://blog.robballen.com/archive/2008/06/14/The-Ultimate-Cliploader--The-movie.aspx

Robb Allen bought "THe Ultimate Cliploader" a while ago.  Basically you dump some .22 rounds into a plastic bin, shake it around, shove the magazine in and the rounds fall in.  Easy-peasy.  No hand strength required.  He's got a video showing it in action... and it's kinda funny too.

If I actually had trouble loading .22 magazines I'd probably buy one.

That looks very similar to the Butler Creek mag loader for loading the 10/22 mags, except it doesn't have the crank assembly to load the rounds.

I can attest that the alignment tray design works pretty well...better than I expected it to when I first got the Butler Creek mag loader...

guys, I thank you.

The lady in question was Rita, over at http://phlegmfatale.blogspot.com/

She'd mentioned that Mkii mags mangle her fingers, and I pretty much agree that loading a large quantity of those is no fun.

So, thanks much, google revealed what I needed, just didn't know it was called a "thumb saver"

This is what I use with a Colt Targetsman that I turned in last week at a no questions asked gun turn in program.

These are the mags that also have that little knob to slide the spring down while you load in the rounds?  Is that something that mangles the fingers?

It's not a problem to move it, but holding it down long enough to get ten rounds in starts to ache, especially after the third or fourth time you do it.

The little stud starts to dig in and bruse the fingers.

Press on something like the pointy end of a ball point pen cap for 30 seconds as hard as you can and you'll get the idea.
I promise not to duck.

Wearing gloves also helps. I have a pair of leather shooting gloves and they've saved my fingers many a time.

WHY IS THE BENCHLOADER SIX HUNDRED AND SIXTY THREE DOLLARS?

That's ridiculous.
