Michael Chrichton Died today

Here's the story:

Quote
Michael Crichton, the million-selling author who made scientific research terrifying and irresistible in such thrillers as "Jurassic Park,""Timeline" and "The Andromeda Strain," has died of cancer, his family said. Crichton died Tuesday in Los Angeles at age 66 after privately battling cancer.

"Through his books, Michael Crichton served as an inspiration to students of all ages, challenged scientists in many fields, and illuminated the mysteries of the world in a way we could all understand," his family said in a statement...

He was a good author. I enjoyed Timeline and Jurassic Park. He always seemed to come up with good, original plots. He really hated big business, but his bias never detracted from the quality of his novels. Its too bad he died. He really knew how to write a darn good sci-fi/techno thriller.

In a year, we'll consider him the lucky one....
Impressed yet befogged, they grasped at his vivid leading phrases, seeing only their surface meaning, and missing the deeper current of his thought.

Damn.  Read a few of his books, and really liked them.  Going to have to buy some more now...

The election results killed him .... :(

Isn't he the one who wrote the anti-global-warming novel: Something? Fear ???

I've read most of his books and just bought State of Fear last night.  He's definitely one of my favorite authors.

I used to read his books when I was younger.  Now I am trying to do a "literature" phase, so everything I'm reading is really old.  Now that I think about it, a modernized version of Machiavelli's "The Prince" would be interesting reading for our new presi...  (nope, I can't do it either.)

I think the only book I haven't read of Crichton's is the new one.

Without fail, they were good books, but made terrible movies. Never understood why.

:( That sucks, I've read both Jurassic Park books from him when I was younger and loved them. 'Tis a great loss.

Tony Hillerman last week, and Crichton this week.

Dang, pretty soon I'm not going to have any of my favorite authors left.

Especially Airframe.

I have read a few of his books and enjoyed them.  I can listen to head phones at work, so right now I am listening to Prey by MC.  This has been a good book so far.

He caught a bunch of flak from the global warming folks...

I liked his stuff because he took basic science, and built some really weird stuff out of it.
