I don't count as a real vet, but I thank the guys who do.

To the veterans among us, the soldiers still on foreign battlefields, and the soldiers who gave their lives in combat -

Thank you for your service.  I sincerely appreciate all that you've done for this country.

thanks to all those who would have served but didn't due to pressing family matters, ill health, or other honorable reasons why they couldn't.  I have known more than one person who carries a load of guilt for not serving.  Don't, its not necessary.

I'll call my dad tonight and say thank you. He'll shrug it off as he always does. Thanks to him and all of you for your service.

Grandpa Shooter:

I'm in that group (DodMERB reject from an ROTC scholarship) and I appreciate your kind thought.

My wife gave me a card this morning. Didn't even know they MADE a veterans day card, but they do. She's a good egg.  =D

I'd like to thank all those who came before me, whose efforts & sacrifices made my life and my family's lives in this country not merely a "statistic."

Thanks to all who wore the uniform and, most especially, to those who paid the ultimate price so that we can live in safety.

As another Veterans day draws to a close, I salute all my brothers who came before, the real heroes, the honorable dead. Your sacrifices at the altar of liberty inspired me when I learned of them during my service, and they do to this day. Rest in peace.

They "cat lady" that lives across the street brought over a star shaped balloon to thank me for veterans day.  The other day after I had got home from Ft Bliss she had brought over a get well soon balloon.
There are five things, above all else, that make life worth living: a good relationship with God, a good woman, good health, good friends, and a good cigar.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

On paper I'm a veteran.

In reality I'm a draft dodger.

I signed up for four years of USAF to avoid two years of Army.

I got stupid lucky and didn't go to Asia.

I extend my thanks to the real vets, the ones who weren't cowards.

Yesterday and this morning, one of my best friends got to spend his first night in a real bed.  Just got back from a tour in Iraq, at Camp Stryker.  He was kind enough to send me a photo of him chilling on Saddam's throne, looking rather smug.  Anyone know if there's any decent ranges near Ft Campbell?

I leave out a beer and a cigar every vet's day.  For those that are beyond the veil of tears and can no longer have the good stuff.  RIP, you earned it.
