Amazing how matter-of-fact the pilot is.

The end result is fantastic: everyone lived.  That's all that really matters.

Capt Sully could have done a better job communcating.  My impression is that ATC (the departure controller) never fully understood that Cactus 1549 had a dual engine failure and that they we planning on ditching into the Hudson.  Now, all that said, both pilots were up to their eyeballs in workload and stress, so it is understandable that the communication wasn't clearer.

I agree.  They were both very busy, I'm sure.

But, "Unable" doesn't tell the controller anything useful.  "We have a dual engine failure and intend to ditch into the Hudson" sums it up quite nicely without wasting too much time.

Yeah, I know, I'm the Monday morning quarterback, but that is why we listen to the tapes and analyze the result.  Hopefully, if I'm ever in a real emergency, I will have learned something from the mistakes of others that will help me get my customers and crew safely to the ground.
