Raising the bar on FAIL?
« on: February 10, 2009, 11:11:26 PM »
The owner of the now-infamous bong used by Michael Phelps.  Was he really stupid enough to post an ad on eBay that said:  "I have a bong; make an offer"?  Or was he trying to be subtle about it?  Might be amusing, if we can get some more details.

Quote
Sources say the owner of the bong was trying to sell it on eBay for as much as $100,000.

Aren't the bongs themselves legal in many countries? Sure are legal here.

As far as I know, they are quite legal.
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.

I thought stuff like that was considered illegal paraphernalia.

Guess maybe I raised the bar on fail.

IIRC...

They're typically legal as long as they've never been used for illegal drugs.  The second you smoke pot in one, it becomes illegal.

Pretty much.

My initial thought [for your next purchase] was to get a .22 lr or .22 mag but as you have one or five, I’d advise you purchase Spell Check---

Bongs are legal here, unless they have illegal drugs (or residue) in them.  Without that, it's just a piece of glass.

The whole investigation / prosecution is a joke.  That sheriff is just trying to make a name for himself.

Like bolt cutters and pry bars.  Perfectly legal in the back of a pickup with chains and blocks and come-alongs.

Have them in the trunk with a tee vee and someone else's checkbook and they magically become "burglary tools"

Word. We don't know what the law is in this guy's locality.

If that particular water pipe is the one Phelps used to smoke weed, then we can safely say it's illegal drug paraphernalia.   It's not terribly surprising that the local po-po would make noises about it.
