You can't make this stuff up
« on: March 25, 2009, 07:14:08 PM »
So, we have a no facebook no myspace policy at work.  Those sites are blocked.  New girl was hired yesterday.  Today, she adds the CEO to her Facebook friends during work hours.  The CEO happens to be home sick, farting around on her Facebook.  New girl also comments about how her new job is so boring.  CEO calls her boss, her boss calls me.  She used a proxy to get to facebook.

Didn't some bored twit in GB get in the news recently for getting fired for doing just about that?

Dumb ought to hurt.

I've got a good one.

A person at our sister park had a facebook. She introduced her boss, to FB. However, the person forgot she had "My boss is such a bitch!" on her facebook. Idiot.

Course she won't get fired. Federal employee and all.

I've got a FB, but it's sanitized, has one photo for my profile, and is only used to communicate with my GF in the chat feature. And I only visit it on my computer.

Any reason why you guys didn't block using external proxies?

Heck, most companies run their own proxy (squid is quite nice) and send stock HTTP requests and any requests to reach other proxies to the bit bucket.

any employee looking it up would not find it

Extra points for the new girl for finding a simple way around the policy.  Points lost for the IT guys for not doing their jobs right.

This girl sounds pretty stupid; if she could defeat your security on the first day yer doin it rong.

Also, I gotta think even 7 proxies wouldn't help her in this case.  =D

We have folks on probation who constantly post to FB/MySpace about the things they have done to violate probation.  I especially like the ones who add pics of drug/alcohol use.  Best ever was the guy on electrnically monitored house arrest who poasted a photo showing the ankle monitor at a party not at his home.  Guess what tracking records showed?  And he was appaled when I locked him up!
