I wonder if Joe Cocker remembers the 1960s?
« on: April 03, 2009, 03:45:51 PM »
I always thought Elaine on Seinfeld took dancing cues from Joe Cocker.

Here's Joe singing in 1969, with subtitles:

And John Belushi doing an excellent imitation:

That's hilarious.  Still a great song though.

I've seen Joe Cocker in person.  Couldn't understand a third of what he was singing? and I was 30 feet away. Belushi was better.

I can't say that I understood the lyrics at 99% of the rock concert I've seen.

Here's the video without the added interpretation.

IIRC Joe Cocker was the musical guest on SNL the night John Belushi did the imitation. I had never laughed so hard in my life as when I saw that on TV.

That was funny.

I remember when Joe Cocker hit the scene. We'd already seen a lot of firsts in the music world. I just figured he was the first epileptic rock star.

My wife and I will be seeing him next month.

I knew the performances were on different shows but had to look up the dates:

Belushi did "A Little Help From My Friends" during the first season, on October 25 '75. He had me at first, I flipped the channel over from something else during the song and thought it was Cocker. Just short of a year later, on October 2 '76, he appeared with Cocker and they did "Feelin' Alright".

Here's the duet: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=26595054

 Both were great performances IMNSHO.

I suspect Cocker doesn't remember a lot from the 60's.
